Rusty's Hawaiian
At Rusty's Hawaiian, we customize our cutting-edge coffee from field to cup -- and share only our best results with you.
We start with six varietals of coffee, each expressing different characteristics. All of them are grown in the Ka'u District, an award-winning coffee region on the Big Island of Hawaii.
After harvest, we process our coffee in traditional and wacky ways. Sometimes, we'll just let it dry in the sun, and at other times, we'll soak it in seawater and other liquids. Different processing times on single varietals and groups of varietals are also tested.
The fun part is trying different roasts, brewing them all, drinking cup after cup until finding the best flavors. After we've found a winning combination of varietal(s) + processing method + roast, we add it to our product list.
Finally, we roast to order, which means we only roast coffee after you've ordered. This way you get the freshest, fullest flavor and aroma in your cup. Within 24 hours of roasting, our coffee is on its way to you!
AWARDS
May 6, 2007: Rusty's Hawaiian ranked among the top 10 Indonesian, Pacific and Asian coffees at the Specialty Coffee Association of America's annual cupping competition. The Ka'u District of Hawai'i swept this category, with seven farms ranking in the top 10.
2010: SCAE (Speciality Coffee Association of Europe) Winner of the award for Outstanding Producer
2010: Grand Champion Winner of the Hawaiian Annual Statewide Cupping Competition
Notes from Coffee Review: Ka'u is a newly emerging coffee-growing district centered about 30 miles south of the famous Kona region on the Big Island of Hawaii. Lorie’s coffee has excellent body, delicate fruitiness and pungent flavor, and is “utterly pure and soaringly intense,” renowned coffee taster Kenneth Davids says.

RUSTY'S HAWAIIAN (on Rusty's Hawaiian 100...)
jcole3 | jcole3 | Thu, 12/29/2011Still the best for flavor, aroma, and the first cup of coffee in the morning.
RUSTY'S HAWAIIAN IS THE BEST (on Rusty's Hawaiian 100...)
hjwhutchison | Wed, 11/09/2011I've been tasting coffees from around the world, from Ethiopia to Hawaii, and Rusty's Hawaiian Ka'u is the best so far. Smooth, fruity, just what one should expect from coffee.
EXPENSIVE (on Rusty's Hawaiian 100...)
TiffanyStone | TiffanyStone | Wed, 09/14/2011solid. Very disappointed that the bag came completely mushed because Rusty's shipped it in a flimsy envelope.
RUSTY'S HAWAIIAN (on Rusty's Hawaiian 100...)
unagi1 | unagi1 | Tue, 08/16/2011In reality a 3.5 / 5, classic Kona flavor and citrus undertones however a bit too acidic which can then turn bitter. Very straightforward, and missing some of that complexity that would make it a really great cup.
FREE SHIPPING (on Rusty's Hawaiian 100...)
Eyal Rosen | Eyal Rosen | Tue, 11/23/2010Hi musily. Indeed in this rare case there is a small deviation. However, when taking into account the discounted shipping, the price evens out. Further, if the order comes out to more than $25, shipping is free. Enjoy! Eyal, ROASTe.com
IT'S CHEAPER TO BUY THIS (on Rusty's Hawaiian 100...)
broseph | broseph | Mon, 11/22/2010It's cheaper to buy this coffee from Rusty's website than it is here. Not sure what that's about. Anyway--the coffee. I've tried this a couple of times and it's lovely. The obvious problem is that Konas offer horrible value. I could name five Costa Rican microlots that I've had within the past month that are better than this (in my opinion) and are half the price (not my opinion)!
RATING RUSTYS COFFEE (on Rusty's Hawaiian 100...)
nascar244888 | Wed, 11/10/2010OK, NOT GREAT, NOT BAD.
GOOD COFFEE (on Rusty's Hawaiian 100...)
DRTOMSCHROEDER | Mon, 08/16/2010This is the most delicious aromatic and rich coffee I've ever had
KONA COFFEE (on Rusty's Hawaiian 100...)
haradag777 | Sat, 08/14/2010It was the absolute best Kona coffee I've ever tasted...hot or cold! I wish I could afford to share it with more friends...I might anyway.
RUSTY'S HAWAIIAN 100% KA'U COFFEE (on Rusty's Hawaiian 100...)
haradag777 | Sat, 08/07/2010I wanted to see if Rusty's winning the Best Kona Coffee award was based on how good the coffee truly was...or an award passed among members of the Kona coffee-growing community. The first brewing proved the award was no fluke...it was the best Kona coffee I've had...and I've had many many cups to compare it with. It's an expensive habit...it's worth every penny.
REVIEW (on Rusty's Hawaiian 100...)
cindy.todd | cindy.todd | Tue, 12/22/2009Good but not worth the money. I can buy local coffee for less than half the price that is just as good.
