PTS ETHIOPIA SIDAMA (on Ethiopia Sidama - AR...)
fincawhd | Thu, 05/24/2012Clean natural. Dry, pungent berry (blackberry); sharp tropical fruit (pineapple); touch of brandied chocolate. It's great.
FLYING MONKEY ESPRESSO (on Flying Monkey Espres...)
dpablo19 | Thu, 05/24/2012This is my favorite espresso blend from PT's. I find it to be a bit sweeter than the southpaw, while still retaining that fruity tinge on the back end. I'm a bit surprised that this one isn't featured on the front page of PT's offerings considering it is one of their staples. Anyway, I highly recommend this one to espresso enthusiasts.
I BREWED THIS UP AS A FRENCH (on Gizmo Blend)
fincawhd | Mon, 05/21/2012I brewed this up as a French Press, and found a lot of bakers chocolate--pleasantly bitter chocolate that was even better when dairy and sugar were added.
I SMELLED AND TASTED BROWN (on Burundi - Kayanza - ...)
fincawhd | Fri, 05/18/2012I smelled and tasted brown sugar, maple syrup, and pecans. Nice coffee and excellent service from PTs
TOO "MICRO" FOR ITS OWN GOOD! (on Guatemala - Finca El...)
jbviau | Thu, 05/17/2012I'm sorry to see this coffee is now out of stock both here and on PT's site, as I truly enjoyed it. During a time when I had 7 varieties of fresh whole bean on hand (no joke!), I kept reaching for El Socorro. Smelled a bit like apricot and vanilla (agreed). That apricot-ish acidity carried into the cup. Creamy mouth feel. "Lovely" is/was the perfect word for these beans. Will be keeping my eye on this farm next year for sure since both lots I tried from it were high-quality (Olympia's Maracaturra and this one).
ANOTHER GOOD BOLIVIAN (on Bolivia - Juan Yujra)
kingfisha | Fri, 05/11/2012PT's is one of my favorite roasters and Bolivian coffees are normally at the top of my list. This coffee has the sweetness of brown sugar and is smooth. The flavor holds its own even as it cools. Spending a few extra dollars for this organic coffee is worth it.
A GREAT GUAT (on Guatemala - Finca El...)
kingfisha | Fri, 05/11/2012PT's is one of my favorite roasters and this selection doesn't disappoint. This Guatemalan is sweet and smooth. The flavor is good from when it's hot until it cools. A great morning coffee with hints of sugar and chocolate.
NOT *THAT* SURLY! (on John Brown Blend)
jbviau | Mon, 05/07/2012Freshly ground, this coffee did give off a certain spiciness, though, that carried into the cup. I enjoyed its chocolate, berry-toned wet aroma, which seemed to shift quite a bit. Fairly multidimensional for a dark roast. Nice but understated acidity. "Tobacco" showed up in the finish clear as day a few times.
THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE (on Southpaw Espresso )
Chamie | Mon, 05/07/2012Dark, chocolatey and rich, Southpaw is a great espresso blend that also brews up nicely in the moka pot. It's a little brighter than I generally like, but if you love a sharp, hickory edge in your espresso, you'll love this blend. I had this in hand within 3 days of my order, just 3 days post roast according to the label. From experience, it really hits its stride between 5 and 7 days post roast, so let it rest for a day or two after you get it to really enjoy all the nuances in the flavor profile. Stands up well to milk, and is just as tasty iced as it is hot -- that's a rarity.
DON ROBERTO (on El Salvador - Finca ...)
dpablo19 | Thu, 05/03/2012This was surprisingly one of the cleanest tasting espressos (espressi?) I've ever had. I was amazed by the contrasting flavors that developed several days post-roast. Initially, it was a lot brighter with a ton of citrus, but it mellowed into a mellow caramelly flavor. It never did reach those darker, more chocolatey notes that I've become accustomed to. This espresso was a nice change of pace, and I hope PT's gets another crop of it sometime in the coming year.
JUST OKAY (on Gizmo Blend)
intrepid510 | Sun, 04/29/2012This one for me was just okay, pretty bland actually. I did like the fact that this blend was suited for both drip and espresso, but it didn't stand out in either. The flavor was just a smooth generic coffee, very unoffensive. It would be a good coffee just as the description of it says, for an office where you cannot satisfy everyone so you are forced to satisfy no one.
VERY NICE BLEND (on B-Ville House Drip)
jbviau | Mon, 04/23/2012At three days post-roast this blend featured a little bit of that salted caramel thing that Brown Coffee's FVH Edlina has in spades. Otherwise, it was (and continued to be into week two) mostly a brown sugar monster. Smooth and tasty, with enough acidity to keep you interested but enough roast to mellow out the brighter edges. Enjoyed this most in the Clever and Aeropress (+ DISK Fine). Didn't waste a bean of it, which is pretty rare in this house. Recommended.
SOUTHPAW ESPRESSO (on Southpaw Espresso )
dpablo19 | Sun, 04/22/2012This espresso has a fair amount of acidity. However, it seems really balanced once you get the brew temperature up high enough. It took me a lot of time to dial in this blend using a heat exchanger, but once I got repeatable results, I was impressed.
SOUTHPAW ESPRESSO (on Southpaw Espresso )
Lisa | Thu, 04/19/2012I enjoyed this very much. It has a sharp (but pleasant) smell when you first open it. The smell reminded me of the Poizon blend (but not as sharp) by Klatch. The flavor is strong, pleasant and holds up to adding milk (and a tiny bit of sugar). I enjoyed it best though cold with no milk or sugar (that is how I am drinking my second cup of it right now). It was recommended to me by Intrepid 510 and I am not sorry I took the recommendation!
THIS IS A GREAT DARK ROAST, (on John Brown Blend)
broseph | Thu, 04/19/2012This is a great dark roast, perhaps my favorite "artisan" dark roast. Then again, I've only had a few. The only other one I can name is Deep Cello's Black Tie, and--for me--this is way better, even though I bought it pre-ground and not whole bean. A coffee to eat with pie, or eggs & bacon, or...it's a good "food coffee"
SINGLE ESTATE (on El Salvador - Finca ...)
intrepid510 | Tue, 04/17/2012This is a good blend on a single estate. It has made for an interesting taste, very bright coffee/espresso for me. Do to the natural processing of the beans I believe it give the coffee a winey sort of taste, it's very complex like a lot of African coffees that you get. Very good, just not what I normally like.
VERY GOOD BLEND, IT WORKS (on Sumatra - WAHANA EST...)
Karrde | Sun, 04/15/2012Very good blend, it works well as espresso, coffee or in milk drinks. I'd probably rate it 4.5 if I could. For a more detailed review check here: http://www.roaste.com/CoffeeBlogs/Karrde/What-Im-Drinking-PTs-Sumatra-Wahana-Estate
DRIP AND ESPRESSO (on Southpaw Espresso )
intrepid510 | Mon, 04/09/2012I have been really happy wit this coffee, one of the best blends that I have had in a while. As an espresso I have been pulling these shots with 18 grams of coffee, and probably about middle of the road temp. It has a nice little bit of brightness to the shots and enough other umph to get through the milk like described. For the drip I was really impressed by the amount of nuanced flavors came through, I got some nice berry flavors from it and a good hint of sweetness at the end. Very good multi-purpose blend.
GREAT NEWS! (on PT's Coffee Roasting...)
EricBNC | Sat, 03/31/2012This roaster was one of my absolute favorites back when their coffee was available on ROASTe a while back - I am very glad to see their selection available again here on ROASTe. My opinion (for what it is worth) - the singe origin microlots PT's sources are on par with Counter Culture, Klatch, and other 4 star roasters - quality beans here.
WELCOME BACK! I LOOK FORWARD (on PT's Coffee Roasting...)
hoonchul | Fri, 03/30/2012Welcome back! I look forward to trying your coffee and I see that they have received very good reviews already.
