About the vendor:

Kickapoo Coffee’s mission is to unite artisan-quality roasting and social justice. That’s why they build direct Fair Trade partnerships with farmer cooperatives committed to quality and sustainability. Each coffee is then roasted to convey clarity, sweetness and complexity.

In searching for the perfect roast, Kickapoo teams up with small-scale farmers who share their vision for quality. As these partnerships deepen over time, the farmer-partners earn additional income while Kickapoo coffees get sweeter and more delicious.

We are a family-scale enterprise named for the scenic Kickapoo River in the Driftless region of southwest Wisconsin, where we’re located. Our shared values form Kickapoo’s foundation: connection to the land, consideration for our local and global community, and commitment to our families and those of our trading partners.

REALLY GREAT COFFEE (on Organic Guatemala Ri...)

    Jamie | Jamie | Fri, 04/16/2010

From the instant I pulled off the seal from the can I was greeted with an intense aroma that literally infused into my nose for a few minutes. From there I knew this was something special and amazing all together. The aroma really shocked me as I was expecting more of a mellow coffee than what I was greeted with. The aroma is sweet, and fruity, with hints of spice. It has a bright and bold smell, but not a dark bold smell. It’s more of an in your face bright aroma that really hits you. The taste is just as amazing. I get a spice that I noticed in the aroma, which dissipates rather quickly. There is a slight fruitiness to it, with a hint of brightness like lemon. I really liked this coffee. It was one of my favorites from Kickapoo.

VERY INTERESTING COFFEE (on Organic Colombia Fon...)

    Jamie | Jamie | Fri, 04/16/2010

Right from opening the can and peeling of the seal I was hit with a rush of aroma. There’s a definite nutty aroma coming at me with a pungent aroma that I noticed in my cup as well. It’s nothing unpleasant at all its just like a hit of tartness like cherry. At first sip I get an immediate rush of flavor. It has a nuttiness to it like in the aroma and a flowery characteristic. I noticed a bit of bitterness on the back of my tongue, but it’s overall a sweeter coffee with a hint of chocolate. Overall It was not a bad coffee.

CLEAN AND SIMPLE (on Organic Colombia Fon...)

Shawn Steiman | Shawn Steiman | Tue, 02/23/2010

I brewed this coffee a number of different ways, though I never cupped it. As expected, it is high quality coffee (free of defects, some complexity, well roasted). This coffee was not exceptional, though. The acidity was med-high and it was the predominant experience of the cup. This isn't a bad thing but, for me, it limited the experience, hence my 4/5 bean rating. The acidity did stir a memory of a fruit. I am guessing a stone fruit but since it was such a light, ephemeral experience, I can't be certain. Moreover, there was no consensus amongst the friends I shared with this. Overall, I enjoyed the coffee and would purchase it again. The price was fair relative to the quality.
