Higher Ground
Higher Ground’s coffees offer a world of specialty offerings from the volcanic soil of the Guatemalan highlands to Sumatra’s dense jungles. They roast a variety of both single origin coffees and blends so that their customers can choose from the full spectrum of gourmet coffee.
Higher Ground’s commitment to quality is also a social and an environmental commitment, as Fair Trade Organic and Shade Grown coffees are roasted exclusively. This ensures that the ethical “high ground” is taken, so that independent farmers are compensated fairly for their harvest and the integrity of the natural environment is preserved.
At Higher Ground, every cup of our hand-roasted coffee is a vote for responsible trade and sustainability.

VERY GOOD (on Higher Ground's Moch...)
hoonchul | hoonchul | Tue, 01/31/2012Very simple and straight forward syrupy goodness of rich chocolate flavor with no acidity or bitterness which I really enjoyed. One of my favorites so far.
WHEN I DON'T WANT A FLAVORED (on Higher Ground's Mexi...)
nmarchand85 | nmarchand85 | Wed, 01/25/2012When I don't want a flavored coffee I always go for Higher Ground's Mexican Coffee. It's a great medium body coffee that is flavorful and smooth. I enjoy coffees that have a slight citrus flavor to them and that's exactly what this coffee offers.
A+ (on Higher Ground's Moch...)
Aaron McCarty | Aaron McCarty | Wed, 01/18/2012My wife and I have this blend on round 2 in the morning, after espresso. Very rich flavor, not too dark and heavy. Highly recommend!
BLACK WARRIOR RIVERKEEPER COFFEE BL... (on Black Warrior Riverk...)
Karrde | Karrde | Thu, 01/05/2012I enjoyed this blend quite a bit, works especially well in mochas I think. You can read more about my thoughts here: http://www.roaste.com/CoffeeBlogs/Karrde/What-Im-Drinking-Higher-Ground-Black-Warrior-Riverkeeper
HIGHER GROUND MOCHA JAVA IS VERY GO... (on Higher Ground's Moch...)
Jazdup | Jazdup | Sun, 12/25/2011Almost everyone has heard the name Mocha Java but how many people have had this coffee. I had it once before from an inferior company and finally re-ordered this again. Higher Ground did a nice job blending the coffee. It is well balanced and has deep rich flavor.. Beans are quite oily. My old grinder would need a cleaning after grinding such an oily bean. All and all I would recommend this is you like a deep rich bold coffee. I have been pleased with other selections from HIgher Ground and have them on my "A" List.
WORTH THE WAIT (on Higher Ground's Papu...)
Liz | Liz | Tue, 12/20/2011My first cup of Higher Ground's Papua New Guinea Dark Coffee disappointed me. It looked dark and had a nice aroma but the taste was light, and I thought at first, something like stale. I've run into that before, and, while I don't actually know if it's stale, that's the only word I can think of to describe the taste. But subsequent cups proved me wrong. I really enjoyed this coffee. Even if it did take 2 weeks to arrive. ; ) I'm on safari for a really flavorful, aromatic dark coffee. This still isn't it. But very nice and worth waiting for. Time to start searching Roaste.com's select coffee offerings again.
GOOD, SOLID CHOICE (on Higher Ground's Moch...)
chuckmoxley | chuckmoxley | Tue, 12/13/2011This is a nice bold roast yet plenty smooth. My only reason for giving it 4 vs. 5 beans is I didn't find anything particularly noteworthy about it. Just kind of a good, plain roast but no interesting notes. Will try some others to see if I can't find one worth really raving about.
GOOD NOT GREAT (on Freshwater Land Trus...)
Jazdup | Jazdup | Sat, 12/10/2011The description says deep aftertaste. I only found a subtle aftertaste, which was disappointing as this is the reason why I got this coffee. This is a "somewhat hearty" blend which would attract the person who wants something more than a lighter generic tasting blend. The beans area about as oily as you will ever get. My grinder needs frequent cleanings with a bean so oily. The acid was low, but still present, with a French Press, but gone with a gold filter in a high quality steam pressured/ drip machine. If you do buy it, you may want to also mix these beans up with some other coffee beans to see what new tastes you can create that are to your liking.
HIGHER GROUND'S MOCHA JAVA COFFEE B... (on Higher Ground's Moch...)

samumaiviti | samumaiviti | Sun, 11/06/2011I enjoyed this coffee quite a bit. I prepare it in an aero press, and the coffee works well with that brewing process. Makes for a smooth cup of coffee.

CrazyCatChick | CrazyCatChick | Fri, 10/28/2011I love French Roast, but this one isn't quite dark roasted enough for my taste.

YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE (on Higher Ground's Moch...)
lisasears | Sun, 10/16/2011I have not yet tasted your coffee beans - they are in the freezer until I need them - and I wasn't going to say anything, but you've emailed asking for this review. Perhaps the coffee will be great - I hope so - but I paid $18.65 for 12 oz. of beans, in part because of a $6.95 shipping charge, to take part in a promotional which, after I learned the details, I got out of. I'm a coffee fanatic. I was a first-time customer of yours. But, after not getting my beans from you for days and days, I tracked the package, and learned that you waited six days after receiving my order and charging my credit card to send out my order for shipping. Six days, before it even started en route. My simple little package took 12 days to get here. I will not be back, no matter how good the coffee is. Thanks for asking.
SLIGHTLY TOO BITTER (on Higher Ground's Moch...)
kylansgirl | kylansgirl | Fri, 10/07/2011I feel like this coffee is slightly too bitter. I give it 4 stars because of that. The beans are very strong when ground and maybe I don't like this dark of a roast. If you like bitter/dark coffees you will probably love this!
