FANTASTIC COFFEE (on Java Kopi Sunda)
jbviau | Thu, 05/17/2012The tasting notes here spoke to me, and I was far from disappointed. Got a few legitimately OMG moments during the first week. The dry aroma had a savory quality, almost like rich beef stew. I did find "tamarind" in the wet aroma--a note that morphed into spiced apple and some sort of fruit cobbler at times. In the cup, this coffee was rich, smooth, full-bodied and yet lighthearted. Spicy finish. Loved it. Fingers crossed re: the return of Velton's to ROASTe soon; it would be a shame to lose him.
VERY INTERESTING SINGLE ORIGIN! (on Tanzania Ndesia AB)
samuellaw178 | Sat, 04/14/2012This is yet another great coffee from Velton! The flavour profile was super fruity with lots of citrusy sweetness. Though it was too bright for me, I suspect many others would have like it very much. Very fruity single origin! Oh, the dry aroma of the coffee beans was just heavenly! Try it soon if you like fruity coffee, limited supply!
GREAT SMOOTH BODY! (on Panama Boquete Mama ...)
intrepid510 | Mon, 04/02/2012Since there are only 50 lbs of this coffee available I thought I would write my review a little early and come back and update it as I go. I have made one pour-over with a V60 Hario so far. This coffee is extremely smooth. I am very amazed about the amount of body this coffee has. It just goes down your throat like a nice liquor with a nice little amount of acidity. Very good coffee, and can't wait to see how it continues to develop. UPDATE: Had it this morning as an auto-drip. I usually use a low amount of coffee for my drip, it just seems to taste better and allows me to get more of the flavors out. Very spicy in that regard, can really taste the like holiday spice flavors and what I would probably call the baked apple that is described in the tasting notes. UPDATE2: The coffee seems to have really gotten sweeter as it has aged and is less acidic. Got some nice chocolate notes out of the espresso shots that I made over the week at day 6 post roast. The sweetness also comes through in the auto drip too!
BONSAI BLEND (on Bonsai Blend)
Karrde | Fri, 03/02/2012To me this is a pretty good coffee and very good espresso. It definitely improved in flavor at about day 5-6 onwards. See a more detailed review here: http://www.roaste.com/CoffeeBlogs/Karrde/What-Im-Drinking-Velton-Coffee-Roasting-Company-Bonsai-Blend
MADE FOR A GOOD GIFT (on Twilight Coffee Blen...)
jbviau | Thu, 02/23/2012Got this for a lover of fine (i.e. not ashy) dark roasts, and he seems to be enjoying it very much. Thumbs up on his behalf!
AVERAGE DARK ROAST (on Twilight Coffee Blen...)
pokeypine | Fri, 02/17/2012The twilight blend tends to be on the bland side if brewed using a paper filter method. It definitely becomes much more acceptable as a traditional french press but still only received average feedback from those who tried it.
REASONABLY EASY DRINKING COFFEE (on Treehouse Blend Coff...)
pokeypine | Fri, 02/17/2012An easy drinking balanced coffee that works reasonable a french press and "immerse & filter" though it doesn't knock any socks off. Some molasses and mild acidity.
BEST OF THE THREE VELTON'S BLENDS. (on Bonsai Blend)
pokeypine | Fri, 02/17/2012The best of the three available Velton's blends. I only had the chance to try it as an french press, aeropress and immerse & filter (clever dripper style) and the Bonsai blend works reasonably well with all three methods. There were overtones of the described milk chocolate, caramel, hazelnut, and citrus fruit however you do not get the strong hazelnut element that is often described in many of the reviews that evaluated as an espresso.
NICE SINGLE-ORIGIN ESPRESSO (on Yemen Mokha Harasi)
jbviau | Fri, 02/03/2012I haven't been wowed by this coffee brewed in various ways (Eva Solo, Aeropress, Clever), BUT it makes a great shot! Really enjoyable as espresso (aromatic, spicy, very sippable). Velton recommended starting with a 16-g. dose, and that's where I've ended up. Note: this coffee is not nearly as fruity as I'd expected.
EASILY THE BEST! (on Bonsai Blend)
samuellaw178 | Tue, 01/31/2012I have tried many of the coffee beans on ROASTe and this is easily the best one I've tried and my favourite so far! First of all, the dry aroma is so intoxicating and you just can't stop smelling it. It's sooo good! When pulled in cup, it doesn't disappoint at all, almost as good as it smells. Overall, it's very balanced and nuanced. Good amount of body that coats your palate for a long time. Leaves a good aftertaste too. There's nothing more you could ask of it! Perfect blend and roast!
A NICE DARK BLEND (on Twilight Coffee Blen...)
Wakeknot | Thu, 12/29/2011I like Velton's coffees and was looking for a dark roast for drip for my wife. She loves dark roasts and I like them, but lean towards lighter ones. She has enjoyed it very much. I like it, too, in spite of my leanings towards lighter roasts and towards espresso. If you like dark roasts this is definitely a blend to try out.
BEST DARK (on Twilight Coffee Blen...)
intrepid510 | Tue, 12/27/2011I used this exclusively as drip, and was not disappointed. Probably the best dark roast that I have had in a long long time. The flavors are deep and complex, which read just like the tasting notes deep chocolate, a touch of spice and deep cherry.
BOUGHT THIS AS A GIFT AND MY (on Treehouse Blend Coff...)
intrepid510 | Tue, 12/27/2011Bought this as a gift and my friend is loving it and asked where they can buy it! Will have to try it myself!
VERY TASTY AND MAY BUY (on Bonsai Blend)
rlsimon1 | Tue, 12/20/2011Very tasty and may buy again, though did not my socks off. Worth a try though.
LET IT REST! (on Bonsai Blend)
intrepid510 | Mon, 12/05/2011I got this coffee just a scant three days post roast, which is great! However, until day 6 post roast I found the coffee to be dull and flavorless. However, without changing any of my methods on the morning of day 6 it was like a complete different coffee. The americanos that I made from it all had strong rich hazelnut to them and were just delicious and very balanced. Very impressed once I got past those first few days!
ORDERING (on Three Ravens Coffee ...)
sunvalleybill | Sun, 11/27/2011I don't care for the necessity of ordering on a pre determined schedule in order to secure a discount. For one since I am new, IU don't know my requirements. I also move two times a year to Idaho, so If I forget to change address's the order goes to the wrong address. Finally I might want to change blends and a with a pre order I am less likely to do this. The coffee was delivered promptly and fresh..
BRAZIL PICO AGUDO (on Brazil Condado Estat...)
aguilarfammily | Sat, 11/26/2011Try this if you like a medium flavor
BONSAI BLEND (on Bonsai Blend)
vulches | Wed, 11/16/2011Very subtle blend that did not power through milk too well, but was very pleasant tasting nonetheless. Good value in the midst of the rapidly increasing prices of beans.
GREAT COFFEE (on Bonsai Blend)
Wakeknot | Thu, 10/27/2011I've really enjoyed this. It is versatile and makes nice shots of espresso and good brewed, too. My favorite way to drink it is with a lever machine.
CREAMY (on Bonsai Blend)
sunvalleybill | Tue, 10/25/2011Nice u.nique aroma and big creamera
