About the vendor:

Started in 1995 in the garage of his home in Staten Island, NY; James Ferrara brings more than 30 years to the specialty coffee industry. He started in the coffee business at the ripe age of 17 and had a passion for coffee ever since. In the small garage he roasted small batches of gourmet coffee, serving to the top gourmet markets in New York establishing Unique Coffee as a premier supplier of Gourmet Coffee in New York City. With the help of his father they used two vans for storage, roasted coffee at night, delivered during the day, and doing sales while delivering coffee.

Unique Coffee quickly grew out of that small garage and moved into it's roasting and manufacturing facility. They purchased a state of the art roasting machine and continued delivering the quality and consitency that Unique Coffee was known for. In a facility where he never thought in his wildest dreams that he would grow out of he needed to take the next step and move into their current manufacting facility and corportate office.

Today Mr. Ferrara is joined by his son Joseph Ferrara and they continue to grow and provide the world with the finest gourmet coffee. Today they serve all 50 states, Canada, and seventeen European countries. They strive and pride themselves in providing the finest gourmet coffee and tea in the market.

I actually use this to make pour over as well as in my espresso machine. It works well for both, in my opinion.

VERY NICE COFFEE! (on Guatemala Antigua - ...)

    samuellaw178 | Thu, 03/29/2012

Had some problem with shipping and the coffee was delayed. Ordered on 3/5 and only received today, 3/29. The coffee seems like it was just reposted to me but I can't be sure. Anyhow! The coffee itself was phenomenal!! I pulled it as ristretto espresso upon arrival. The crema was thick and plentiful. The body was very heavy as expected. The first sip revealed a very fruity overall taste and it was followed by a strong pineapple! I've seen many coffees with the descriptors 'pineapple' and now I am a believer. I double checked with the description from the roaster and there's nothing about this 'pineapple'. But that's not important. I am sure I did taste that! The coffee might be a little bright for some but I am getting more used to fruity coffee and this is definitely one of my top list of fruity coffee. Keep in mind that this is pulled upon arrival. If it was weeks old, I am not sure how well it would hold against time. But I definitely had a glimpse of the coffee. It's definitely very good! Let's see in a few days. For the price and taste of the coffee, I can easily give 5/5, heck, even 5.5/5 just because it's the best bang for the buck with best taste! However, the experience definitely took a little off this coffee. But my last order from the roaster was fairly quick, so this might just be an accident. Overall, it's a bittersweet experience for me.

POOR SERVICE AND MEDIOCRE COFFEE (on New York City Coffee...)

    bdcline | Thu, 03/15/2012

Ordered on 3/4...shipped on 3/12 and finally arrived on 3/15. No roast date on bag. Coffee itself was unremarkable--a slightly over-roasted blend of Columbian and Costa Rican. Then again, I wasn't looking for high quality specialty coffee, just something "fresh" for iced coffee I was preparing for an event, for which it arrived too late! Wouldn't order from again.

TERRIFIC VALUE (on Cafe Gianna Espresso)

    Scott Lush | Fri, 03/02/2012

At $8.99 for a pound this is a great value. It had elements of flavor from citrus, walnut, chocolate and something berry. No bitterness at all. It's a pretty amazing value for the price, in my opinion.

GOOD FLAVOR GOOD PRICE BUT (on New York City Coffee...)

    samuellaw178 | Wed, 02/29/2012

This coffee is actually one of the most decent coffee with the lowest price. Could be a budget coffee without compromising the flavor. However, one biggest complain I had, is that I placed an order on the coffee on Feb 13, and when I received it (Feb 16), the expiry date was actually on 1 Feb 2013. No roast date anywhere. The expiry date may, or may not be inferring the roast date. But when I pulled the coffee as espresso, it definitely show the sign of stale coffee after 2 days. The crema it gave actually resembles the old coffee I had. Though, the taste was actually pretty decent. I had a feeling of being cheated if the expiry date indeed infer one year after the roast date. That would mean it's already slightly more than 2 weeks old when it's at my door. And it was advertised as "roast to order". I shoot a message using the form here, but never gotten a reply after a week. I might be ordering this as a budget coffee because it does taste good. The price is superb. Just that I am a little unsatisfied with the "roast per order" claim.

TAKES ME BACK TO COSTA RICA (on Costa Rican Royal Ta...)

    Andrewkk | Tue, 02/14/2012

When my wife and I traveled to Costa Rica a few years back I fell in love with the coffee. I was told that you couldn't duplicate the flavor outside of Costa Rica. I thought that was true until I tasted this. Fantastic

GOOD MEDIUM (on Guatemala Antigua - ...)

    bctr1998 | Thu, 02/02/2012

A nice medium coffee. It does not taste sweet as the description suggests, more smoky. Shipped on time and fresh.

NOT BAD (on Peru Chanchamayo Cof...)

    bctr1998 | Mon, 01/30/2012

A good medium coffee, but not a great coffee. I did not taste the sweetness mentioned in the description. My favorite coffee from Unique Roasters, the Honduras Bourbon, does have a nice mild sweet flavor.

SWEET AND MILD (on Honduras Bourbon Cof...)

    bctr1998 | Sun, 01/15/2012

I had no shipping problems, arrived on time. The description says medium but this seems closer to a mild. Nice flavor with a subtle sweetness.

RICH AND SWEET (on Honduras Bourbon Cof...)

    Chamie | Fri, 12/30/2011

First the bad -- thanks probably to the holiday season, I ordered this coffee on November 30 but only received it this afternoon, December 30. ROASTe stayed on top of the order for me, checking with me several times to see if it had arrived yet, and eventually canceled my order for me 4 days before it arrived. That said, the coffee was definitely worth the wait. so far, I've made it as espresso, in the moka pot and in an automatic drip coffee maker. The flavor differences are marked, but it's excellent no matter what the preparation method is. It's a dark, rich chocolatey coffee with subtle undertone of roasted nuts and a hint of berry. I generally like my coffee with cream, but the Honduras Bourbon is so rich and sweet that I'm quite happy to drink it straight. My son, who is a recent coffee convert, took one sip and commented that he'd never realized coffee is naturally sweet before.

GOOD VALUE (on Cafe Gianna Espresso)

    bctr1998 | Thu, 12/08/2011

Like all Unique Coffee it was very fresh and a good price. We use a stovetop Espresso maker. This espresso is a bit light for my taste, but still very good.
