BOLD WAY TO WAKE UP IN THE MORNING (on Brazil Dark Coffee)

    chuckmoxley | Wed, 05/02/2012

This is a really bold, full-flavor hit in the morning. Loved it. And it is exactly as the roaster describes...rather complex flavor with many bold layers. It'll wake you up for sure. Just slightly more acidic than some of the roasts I've tried from ROASTe but not bad at all. And did like the fact that they wrote the roasting date on it, letting you know it's super fresh. Bonus: Arrived super fast, like in 2 or 3 days.

With cream, this tasted a lot like milk chocolate. Similar to some of the Peets stuff in that respect

REX DOUBLE XX (on Rex Double XX Coffee)

    Milganite | Tue, 04/26/2011

This coffee is pretty good and to me had a sweet (chocolate, but I also tasted plum) taste without any bitterness. It's strong and flavorful, but not one of my favorites, I think mainly because of the sweet undertones. The coffee was VERY fresh when I received it (within three days of roasting!).

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! (on Guatemala Water Proc...)

    EricBNC | Thu, 02/03/2011

The roaster describes this as a pleasant medium body with balanced cocoa, toasted nut and citrus flavors. The finish is clean, smooth and lingering with a crisp acidity. The beans smell great as does the brewing coffee. The taste notes run more to the toasted nut and balanced cocoa in the cups I tried over the last couple weekends. This one is becoming the daily driver for the decaf lovers in my household. Honestly, i find myself more often than not pouring at least one cup after smelling the aroma coming from the kitchen - and decaf is not something I will seek out very often. This coffee is priced on the upper end of the scale but is worth every penny. Rex Coffee Guatemala Water Process Decaf is one of the best I have tried - ever - and blows away any of the handful of decaf coffees I sampled over the past couple years. Highly recommended!

REX DOUBLE XX (on Rex Double XX Coffee)

    dan32641 | Sun, 01/16/2011

REX Double XX Review: After doing a complete cleaning of my brand new grinder, and my 16 year old Mr. Coffee machine, I ran some water through my Brita Water filter pitcher. I wanted everything perfect for brewing this new (to me) coffee. While grinding, what a wonderful aroma. The bag said it was roasted on January 10, and I'd received it on January 13. Today is January 17. Such a strong suggestion of chocolate filled the air. I ground the beans to medium. Not thick, so as to lose any possible flavor. Not too much, to avoid creating an espresso. Don't want to use too much too soon. Measured an amount consistent with a 5 cup brew cycle. As the machine kicked into gear, the most amazing aroma started to fill the kitchen. My wife, on the second floor, came down to find out what I was doing. The smell was enticing to her, and she hates coffee and prefers tea. When finished, I took my favorite mug and filled it. No cream or sugar... as is my practice with any new coffee. I like tasting it unadulterated with other flavors until I know what I'm tasting. Such a strong, and I'd even say bold, flavor. It WAS roasted almost dark. Notes of Chocolate, and Tobacco floated over my taste buds. I am in love with another coffee. Almost sweet all by itself. A touch of citrus acidity, but nothing bitter about this at all. This is a coffee I would recommend to anyone who wants a GREAT cup of coffee. Try it "Black, no sugar" at first. It is an excellent choice for a late night coffee, even if I did have it before 11am. Working nights, this IS my night time. For the second cup, I added two tablespoons of Clover Honey, and a half measure of Coffee*Mate (non-dairy) creamer. It really doesn't need any cream.... but that's how I take most of my coffee. Such wonderful notes and finishes. This is a 5-Star coffee. Aromatic and delicious. Bold and beautiful! Regular brewing works very well with this.

ETHIOPIAN AMARO GAYO NATURAL (on Ethiopia Amaro Gayo ...)

    bridgetscout | Mon, 01/10/2011

This coffee is bold and adventurous - so much like Africa. It is very aromatic and will make your house smell so very good even when you grind the beans. I love it and highly recommend it!

THIS COFFEE IS A LIGHT (on Ethiopia Amaro Gayo ...)

    iko249 | Mon, 01/10/2011

This coffee is a light roast, and I usually drink dark roasts, so I wasn't sure how this one would hold up. When grinding the beans, I was surprised at the sweet fruit fragrance that came from the beans. It was a heavenly mix of fruit and coffee. I brewed the roast in a french press, giving lots of time to extract all the flavor the coffee beans had to offer, and I was not disappointed! The taste is nice and mellow, with the aroma of fruit hitting the nose first, and following last on the tongue. It's a great mix of a light roast coffee and sweet notes that is perfect for someone who is looking to drink good coffee without wanting a 'heavy' coffee. Definitely a winner!

COFFEE (on Rex Original Roast C...)

    robbynedavies04 | Sun, 01/09/2011

I ordered on 01/03/11 & recv'd it on 01/06/11. Thats fast. The aroma when I popped open the box was heavenly- rich & dark. The beans were the best I've seen for a light/medium roast. Pot #1 I had the grind set at medium producing a great cup of flavorful coffee, rich & smooth w/or w/o creamer which is how I drink it. For pot #2 I set the grind for coarse which gave me an even better cup. If u like to use flavored creamers or syrups this is a coffee that will hold up its end for deliciousness. This is coffee that my nondrinking roommate will even like.

DELICIOUS! (on Rex Original Roast C...)

    EricBNC | Wed, 01/05/2011

The bag carries a roast date only a few days earlier than the arrival date - this is a good way to start. The roaster describes this coffee as a pairing of High-Grown Central and South American beans, Flavor notes of milk chocolate compliment a mild citrus acidity. The mellow sweetness and medium body combine for a pleasant approachable cup. The finish of toasted hazelnuts enhances the caramel-like aroma and is mildly persistent. The dry beans smells like caramel and fresh roasted nuts with a hint of spice while the brewed aroma is a milder version of the same. The first sip is mildly acidic with a quick turn toward caramel sweetness that lingers through the medium length finish. The mouth feel is medium full and smooth. As it cools the cup remains balanced with the mild acidity and sweetness playing off each other till the end. This coffee would be a great introduction gift into the world of gourmet coffee for a new aficionado on your list. Even more though, this is a great coffee for the veteran single origin explorer just looking for that delicious coffee experience while on furlough from the latest Microlot expedition.

SMOKEY, RICH (on Brazil Dark Coffee)

    Scott Lush | Sun, 11/28/2010

This coffee is everything the roaster describes: baker's chocolate in flavor with a smokiness and boldness. Not a hint of bitterness anywhere. Yes it held up great with cream because then the boldness and smokiness got spread out more. Rex has worked closely with ROASTe to choose its coffee lineup for our site and we're glad to have this bold dark roast available for our customers.

BLUEBERRIES, JAM-LIKE, VERY FLAVORF... (on Ethiopia Amaro Gayo ...)

    Scott Lush | Thu, 11/25/2010

I liked this coffee so much that I hoarded it at ROASTe and didn't want to give this coffee away. It has a powerful blueberry aroma and flavor note. A jam-like note of sweet berries - strawberry, blueberry, blackberry. For a coffee beginner, this is a wonderful way to discover what a gourmet coffee and single-origin is like because it's totally different from a regular cup of Joe. It's like a regular cup of coffee with a PhD.

RICH, BOLD, EARTHY (on Rex Double XX Coffee)

    Scott Lush | Mon, 11/22/2010

This coffee has all the earthiness, richness and boldness that I could want from a dark roast without any bitterness. It's strong and flavorful. Did work great with cream, just like roaster's description says. I didn't taste the slightest bitterness. It's a really nice blend that came across as strong and flavorful.
