Heirloom Coffee LLC
Heirloom Coffee LLC is a direct trade importer of Southeast Asian heirloom coffees. They specialize in traditional and exotic coffee and tea from Vietnam, Sumatra, Thailand and the Philippines. Buyers search Southeast Asia for rare and exotic coffees, selecting heirloom coffee varieties that modern coffee production has all but lost. Heirloom coffees are produced in Vietnam, Sumatra, Thailand and the Philippines. They are the only authorized importer of Vietnam's top-selling coffee brands, award-winning Nacha Thai coffee (SCAA 2007 Best Asian Coffee), the endangered Liberica species from the Philippines, and true Kopi Luwak (civet coffee) from Sumatra and the Philippines.
Southeast Asian coffees are by tradition never over-roasted, and they preserve the natural sugars and oils for stability, natural sweetness and lack of bitterness. At the same time, they are intensely flavorful, so much so that many people mistakenly use the term “Vietnamese espresso” to describe the single-serve method of brewing traditional SE Asian coffee in the Phin drip brewing device.

VIETNAMESE COFFEE (on Vietnamese 7 oz. Phi...)
samuellaw178 | Thu, 03/29/2012If you're looking to brew vietnamese coffee for one person, this it the one. It's easy to use and quite straight forward. However, if you're planning to drink the coffee from these black without sugar or milk like me, I would recommend to use some other brewer. For some reason, the coffee from the Phin filter is a little bitter and without much flavors. I guess that's why people use dark roasted coffee and add sweet condensed milk to Vietnamese coffee. It's designed to brew coffee to that nature and probably not very versatile. The grind size is hard to get because no matter how coarse/fine it is, I only get slow flowing drips from the filter. Needs to experiment more.
SIMPLE AND EASY (on Vietnamese 11 oz. Ph...)
fatnat79 | Tue, 03/13/2012I like to use these to make traditional Vietnamese iced coffee. I tend to use a dark roast with it so the coffee flavor comes out through the condensed milk. Easy to use as I set it on top of a cup with condensed milk already in it and then after it finishes brewing, pour the coffee/milk mixture over ice.

ORDER (on Kopi Luwak Sumatran ...)
december3 | Mon, 12/26/2011I was very displeased with the fact this was suppose to be a christmas gift, yet did not receive it in time for that. I ordered this coffee on Dec. 10 with a 2-3 business day shipment. Yet, when I had not received it as of Dec. 19, I contacted you and was told that it had not been shipped yet. Consequently was not able to send it to the person until after receiving it on Dec. 23, meaning it was not received by the person until the week after christmas. Yes, I was sent a one cup coffeee strainer and a package of sumartra coffee for the inconvenience. So I really can't rate the coffee until after the first of the yr. when I see the person whom it was meant for. Thank you.

11OZ PHIN COFFEE - POOR DESIGN, POO... (on Vietnamese 11 oz. Ph...)
Le van Tien | Tue, 10/25/2011After I brought (QTY=8 ) of 11oz Coffee Maker, I am very disappointed with following seasons: 1) Quality of Product very poor in general. 2) Lid and filter is very sharp edge. It's easy to cut your finger when you handle it especially clean it up. 3) The small holes and on the body chamber, filter as well as the bottom tray are not consisted in diameter, pattern, etc. again the holes also show sharp edges. It's easy cut your finger while clean it... 4) The filter did not fit correctly to the main chamber or lock into the chamber. I expected this filter should be screw-in or lock to the main chamber assembly so the ground coffee could be intact between bottom chamber and the filter so that when pour the hot water to it the filter, the ground coffee won't float up by the force of hot water... and ground coffee has room to expand.... Very Poor Design..... 5) It's look very "Cheap" Product.... This indicated the designer did not put enough time and energy and though to this product . Why ??? or they just want to get $$$ only !!!

EXCELLENT FOR VIETNAMESE COFFEE (on Vietnamese 7 oz. Phi...)
tiept | Thu, 06/30/2011I have been making Vietnamese coffee for more than 10 years and really prefer this kind of gravity insert. As the retailer stated, it's difficult to gauge how much to screw down with the other type and I had a real tough time with how much to tighten it. The gravity type method can be done by feel and is much easier to get right after the first few trials. I did not buy this particular filter but it looks to be of higher quality than what you find at a typical Asian supermarket. Before getting into making espresso using a machine, I was mainly using this filter type. I tried Aeropress, but being Asian, I need a stronger brew. It took me a while to figure out how to use this filter. Vietnamese coffee is primarily of the dark French roast variety. I usually just buy the can coffee from Asian supermarkets (the horror!) because I didn't know any better. This is my procedure: add 3 teaspoons of ground coffee and shake the filter side to side to level it; tamp the ground using the upper filter moderately, don't do the 30 lbs. tamp of the espresso drinkers; leave this filter on top of the coffee; if the coffee is too bitter, add a pinch of salt to the coffee (very common in this part of the world); heat up the water to almost boiling point (180-195 F); pour hot water slowly into the filter up to about 1/4 of the filter; let it seep for 20 seconds or so and then pour more hot water into it to almost fill the filter. For Vietnamese iced coffee, add in 3 teaspoons (or less) of condensed milk, mix it in and add over ice. I usually drink Americano by adding some hot/broiling water. I recommend using freshly roasted and grinded coffee and try to grind so that the water going through the coffee takes about 2.5-3 minutes. Keep your tamp consistent. You might need to play around with everything a bit for best results.
DOES THE JOB (on Vietnamese 7 oz. Phi...)
OCcoffeelover | Wed, 06/29/2011I personally am not a fan of chilled coffee but my husband drinks nothing but iced coffee. Simple to use. And according to my husband, it's just as good as ordering it in a Vietnamese restaurant without costing a ridiculously over priced amount. Would definitely buy again

ajmaly | Mon, 06/27/2011Loved it! Easy to use; tasty coffee. I like that you get two different coffees, and I especially like that the 'gourmet blend' is split up into two sealed bags. Great starter set for Vietnamese coffee!
VERY AROMATIC AND GREAT FULL TASTE (on Legendee Vietnamese ...)
triddinh | Sat, 06/25/2011I've been drinking a lot of Vietnamese coffee as of late and have recently tried the Legendee blend since it was based on the famous civet coffee of Asia. Although I never had real civet coffee this Legendee coffee tastes amazing. Smell was aromatic and the taste was simply fantastic. Would have given 5 stars but coffee is a bit expensive but well worth it.
SHOOT AND MISS QUALITY ASSURANCE (on Vietnamese 7 oz. Phi...)
dominguez | Tue, 04/26/2011If you’re looking for an inexpensive phin and will tolerate mid-low quality, than this is your pick. The maker is made of stamped aluminum with hard plastic stubs. The lid, body, and filter are of reasonable quality and effective. However, I can’t say the same about the gravity insert. The stem on the insert was attached off-center and crooked. The insert disc is slightly smaller than the body and allows the grind to leak.

TASTY (on Philippine Liberica ...)
Nuance Coffee and Tea | Wed, 12/08/2010I have been wanting to try Philippine Liberica coffee for some time now. Now, that I have, I am glad that I did. It was not as earthy, as I had expected, which was nice, and the tobacco note in the finish was quite pleasant. I was taken aback by the amount of oil on the surface of the beans for a "Medium" roast.(???) Also,I would like to have seen a good, one way, degassing valve, on the bag, for freshness. Along the same line, a freshness date that is 6+ months away was a little much for me. Overall, a very drinkable coffee.
THE KOPI LUWAK HAS BEEN A REAL TREA... (on Kopi Luwak Philippin...)
bridgetscout | Thu, 11/11/2010The kopi luwak has been a real treat. I had to tweak it to get it just right, but my overall rating of it is a good one. It was really good with some homemade salty pretzels!
RICH, UNIQUE DRIED-FRUIT AND APRICO... (on Legendee Vietnamese ...)
Scott Lush | Sat, 11/06/2010In the bag and while brewing there was an overwhelming apricot, dried fruit and milk chocolate aroma. Drinking this coffee gave a taste totally different from a regular cup of Joe -- hard to describe even for someone who has sampled 300+ coffees. Fruity, floral, sweet, caramel but at the same time pungent like an espresso shot. It tastes like it's heading to lemony brightness but suddenly stops short at a more mellow level of dried-fruit citrusy that isn't acidic. It's a real treat to try something different like this Legendee with its mix of Arabica and Excelsa beans.
