THE MAJOR (on Mazzer Major Coffee ...)
cmeez | Sat, 03/10/2012This is an 83mm flat burr grinder made for shop use. It's a large grinder for your kitchen or coffee bar,but if you want a fast, constant espresso grinder let will last a lifetime it might the grinder for you. There's simply mods to make the doser better for home use.
LOVE MY MAZZER SJ! (on Mazzer Super Jolly C...)
bdcline | Fri, 03/09/2012What can I say? If you're into espresso, the grinder is the sine qua non--but if you're looking at Mazzers you probably already know that! I've had mine for about 12 years, and before that, it spent years in heavy use at a Starbucks (back before they went automatic). This baby's a tank and a workhorse, so if you're reluctant about taking the plunge, know that you will take this grinder to your grave.
GREAT GRINDER (on Mazzer Major Coffee ...)
Wakeknot | Wed, 02/29/2012this grinder is big,, but probably rivals the mahlkoenig k30 for the best flat burr grinderout there.
A BARGAIN (on Macap MC4 Coffee Gri...)
Wakeknot | Sun, 02/26/2012this is a grinder that is built like a tank and at a bargain price. I don't know of a grinder of this build quality sold for less than this. I do prefer the doser version though (but it is not as cheap).
GREAT GRINDER (on Mazzer Super Jolly C...)
avaserfi | Sat, 01/28/2012I picked up a SJ used a while back on craigslist. They are built like tanks and can grind very well for espresso. They aren't the ideal grinder for someone who wants a single grinder to do it all, but they can be used for such purposes. Personally, I didn't like the doser for home use, so I modified it to work as a doserless model. Quick, easy and high quality. A great grinder.
THERE ARE SOME BETTER (on Mazzer Mini Coffee G...)
intrepid510 | Mon, 01/16/2012There are some better grinders out there at a similar price, but none can match the build of this grinder. Like others have said it is built to last, namely these are designed as a secondary grinder for a cafe (think decaf espresso) and will take the abuse you can ding out on it. The size allows it to fit in most kitchens and will make some really good espresso.
IF HEIGHT ISN'T AN ISSUE. (on Mazzer Super Jolly C...)
intrepid510 | Mon, 01/16/2012If you are looking for an espresso grinder and never want to buy another one this is probably your choice. Obviously you need to have the height to have this grinder, as it's footprint isn't huge. These grinders are designed for coffee shops to be used hundreds of times in a day so it will last a lifetime. The 64 mm burrs are also some of the best and make for an excellent well rounded espresso. Good bang for the buck, will probably need to make a few mods to the doser so cleans everything, but thats nothing a google search can't help you with.
NICE (on Macap MC4 Coffee Gri...)
samuellaw178 | Fri, 12/30/2011Macap makes nice grinder and this is one of them for entry level espresso grinding. It's a little smaller and slower as compared to its big brother, but the buil quality is unbeatable. And this is the doserless version. Would be a little more messy but good for those who despise doser.
GREAT! (on Mazzer Super Jolly C...)
samuellaw178 | Sun, 12/25/2011This is one of the standard grinders in most cafe. It uses 64mm flat burrs which is very good for espresso. Sometimes, you could find these used for a cheaper price. However, a new one would guarantee you good espresso for many years to come. Not to mention a new Super Jolly looks really cool on the counter!
NICE TAMPER (on Macap Pressimo 57mm ...)
EricBNC | Sat, 12/24/2011The Macap Pressimo 57mm Coffee Tamper is a nice tamper that someone with a Macap product will want to complete the matching gear for great espresso.
VERY NICE (on Macap MC4 Coffee Gri...)
EricBNC | Thu, 12/22/2011For much less than the Mazzer mini's price one of these will give as great a grind with equal durability - both are bullet proof.
GOOD BUILD (on Mazzer Mini Coffee G...)
samuellaw178 | Thu, 11/17/2011The grind quality probably isn't as stellar as the Super Jolly or Major but it's pretty darn good. The build quality of Mazzers are respectable and it's very likely this grinder can last you for a long while. The size of Mini is small enough for most home, unlike Super Jolly and Major which are designed for cafe that are much heavier, bigger and taller.
GREAT QUALITY FROM MAZZER (on Mazzer Major Coffee ...)
Son Ton | Thu, 11/17/2011I have the smaller cousin to this grinder, the Super Jolly. It is simply great and will last through a nuclear explosion, seriously!
GREAT QUALITY FROM MAZZER (on Mazzer Mini Coffee G...)
Son Ton | Thu, 11/17/2011I have the super jolly grinder and I have heard that the construction is the same for the Mini. Expect to pass on this grinder to your great grand children! it is simply indestructible!
ONE OF THE BEST FLAT BURR GRINDER O... (on Mazzer Major Coffee ...)
samuellaw178 | Tue, 11/08/2011This grinder is one of the best flat burr grinders out there as far as I know. Most people normally see titan conical grinders as the ultimate grinder but I don't agree with that completely. The generally accepted opinion and from my own experience,is that, conical burr tends to give a brighter(more acidic) taste profile given the same bean and temp. Where as a flat burr like Mazzer Major gives a more mellow upfront with more chocolate bass notes. Both the titan conical and flat burr grinder can bring out the best and nuances of each coffee but emphasizes on different aspect. It's just the individual preferences of the few top baristas that prefer brighter cup and thus perceive that as 'better'. But in my very honest opinion that's not the case. But do keep in mind that a flat burr won't necessarily make bright coffee like Kenyan chocolatey. It's the bean that determines most of the taste profile. Grinder probably accounts for 10% of it. About this grinder: Mazzer's name is synonymous to quality and durability. I have a used Mazzer major and I believe it's at least 15 years. But it is still running very strongly and has never skipped a beat on me. Based on the built, I would say it can run for 5 decades no problem at my home. The grinder grinds very quickly, 15g in about 6 seconds. The grind is very fluffy and very consistent. It retains very little coffee(0.2-0.4g) without sweeping the chute but close to no retention when you sweep the chute. This is very excellent as compared to many titan conical grinders that retain more than 5g. As a whole, I would perceive this as the perfect ultimate grinder for me. If I were to nitpick, the only downside of this grinder is the inefficient doser. THe doser could be designed better and eliminate the needs to sweep the chute. The sweeping efficiency of the dosing vane could be improved too. It would be perfect if I do not have to mod the dosing vane with DIY electrical tape. As a conclusion, if you can afford this grinder, it is one of the best choice you could get. Its close contenders would probably be Anfim Caimano or k30 Vario etc.
COMMERCIAL GRADE (on Mazzer Major Coffee ...)
EricBNC | Sun, 10/30/2011It is hard to imagine ever wearing this grinder out in the average shop - home use? never wear it out, ever...
HARD TO BEAT (on Mazzer Mini Coffee G...)
EricBNC | Sun, 10/30/2011A homeowner would never wear this grinder out - Mazzer quality just like the larger machines.
A NICE GRINDER (on Mazzer Mini Coffee G...)
Wakeknot | Sun, 10/30/2011this is in a class with the Macap M4 as a really good home grinder.
A GREAT GRINDER, INDEED (on Mazzer Super Jolly C...)
jbviau | Thu, 10/20/2011But that hopper...seriously? Too much!
THE GOLD STANDARD (on Mazzer Super Jolly C...)
EricBNC | Thu, 10/20/2011This is one grinder I would love to have - They are work horses that deliver excellent grind quality.
