At Compassionate beans our mission is to give back while providing you the best most socially
responsible coffee possible.
It all came about after selling my last coffee shop in Pacific Beach California. I sold everything I owned except my motorcycle and my faithful mutt "Lady" I threw her on the back of the motorcycle and headed south. I traveled for almost a year from Mexico to Panama and every country in Central America. On this journey I was able to experience and visit some of the greatest coffee growing regions of the world. While on this adventure I had an opportunity to see something that most coffee drinkers never think about, where their coffee actually comes from. The farms, the communities, the people. These places and people are so wonderful, so kind and so generous, yet most often so poor and impoverished and live on such meager means. Farmers and their families are often living on less per day for the coffee they grow, than you and I pay for a single cup! Often this translates in to hunger, lack of medical attention and education for them and their children. We pay so much for a cup of coffee here and so little of that money actually makes it back to the people who all made it possible often farmers will receive as little as 12 cents per pound of green coffee they work so hard to grow.I realized that if I was going to go back into the coffee industry I had to make a change, how could I rightfully sell a cup of coffee which is a luxury that you and I take for granted, knowing that the farmer that it came from often has so very little. I decided I needed to make my coffee count and give meaning to my coffee.
Thus Compassionate Beans was born! At Compassionate Beans we are working to make that change, for starts we buy organic fairly traded coffee, from there we give back 50% of our proceeds earned back to the countries of origin and the farmers. We do this by returning the money to the communities and the farmers through programs that offer education for children, medical needs, helping farmers with sustainable agriculture practices, community involvement and micro loans for small business growth
