TRICKY BUT QUITE WORTH IT! (on Alakef's Brazilian C...)

    samuellaw178 | Thu, 03/08/2012

THe previous reviewer is right spot on, except that I don't think it's too light roasted. This coffee is very smooth without biting edge. And it has some pleasant acidity to it but not too strong. Just right. At first, it was a little too smooth to me. However, upping the dose and let it rest a few days does let the flavors start coming out. Might not be as complex as other coffee, because Brazil is probably known for their smooth profile. But definitely worth a try for the price. However, there is some ashiness with slight bitterness upfront on the coffee. It might just be the roasting or something.I wouldn't say it's too light roasted though. With espresso, first few sip will have some appearance of slight ashy bitterness. But once you're pass that, you will be rewarded with the smooth buttery texture of Brazil. There'll be some nuances to pick up from. Not bad as a whole. In americano, it's so silky heavy bodied. The taste is very smooth and well rounded. A perfectly good cup after dinner.

SMOOTH, BUT TOO WEAK FOR ME (on Alakef's Brazilian C...)

    mistiramirez | Mon, 01/16/2012

This coffee was very smooth and low in acidity. The flavor was good, but unfortunately it was just too light a roast for me. I will probably end up mixing these beans with a darker roast for more flavor. This would be a perfect coffee for people who enjoy a lighter roast and need low acid coffee. I did enjoy this coffee, even though it was not strong enough for me, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a lighter roast.

'INTERMEZZO' IS APPROPRIATE (on Intermezzo Espresso)

    123scy | Thu, 12/29/2011

The Goldilocks description provided by the roaster is pretty much right on. Not too light, not too dark, etc. Unfortunately, not too anything. Pleasant, but rather anonymous. It is a little harsh, in my opinion, and that keeps it from being a really top-notch espresso.

ALAKEF "SCANDANAVIAN DARK ROAST" (on French Roast - Certi...)

    123scy | Thu, 12/29/2011

This is my wife's favorite coffee. She prefers a rich, dark roast, and this one delivers. A somewhat oily bean, medium aroma. Alakef is the provider at our favorite North Shore espresso shop, The Java Moose. This coffee appears to be just about identical to the Moose's "Scandanavian Dark Roast", which is really a pretty funny concept if you're familiar with Lutheran church-basement coffee (light brown-colored water, hours in coffeemakers that never get cleaned). Recommended.

DELICIOUS, FULL BODIED (on Papua New Guinea)

    Scott Lush | Thu, 12/08/2011

Intriguing and enjoyable mix of full body, medium richness and also some light honey sweetness and light floral notes. Really a pleasant coffee with excellent body. Stands up great to milk because of its richness, in my opinion. Like a Sumatran coffee plus interesting additional high notes. If this were a wine it would be a Bordeaux or a Malbec: big body, fully developed complex flavor.
