Douwe Egberts
Douwe Egberts was founded in 1753 by Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke Thysses. They began selling coffee, tea and tobacco in their small shop, 'De Witte Os' (literally 'The White Ox'), in Joure, the Netherlands. Originally their only customers were the local villagers.
However, about 1780 when his son Douwe Egberts joined the business, he built up a regional reputation by also supplying shop owners elsewhere, thereby spreading the family brand around the country. Gradually, Douwe and his descendants built a company that grew to become the Dutch market leader for coffee and tea, its core products.
Since 1978 Douwe Egberts has been allied to the Sara Lee Corporation, which opened new horizons worldwide. It is now one of the top three largest coffee roasters in the world.

MTALEX1 | Tue, 03/13/2012Out of all orders from Roaste this was the most unsatisfactory. Beans were roasted long ago and no matter what setting was on my grinder or espresso machine (Preciso & Bezzera), no crema and the taste was that of stale beans.

melanie.keegan | Fri, 03/09/2012Having tasted Douwe Egberts coffee at a recent seminar, I was immediately enticed by its subtle flavor and smoothness. Hence I was on the quest to obtain some for myself. I have been searching for the right cup of coffee for years - and I'm still looking........so that kinda indicates my opinion of this brand. Although it is better than most brands I purchase in a regular grocery store, it has a wonderful aroma, and it has a gentle smooth flavor - it is not as rich or as strong as I was expecting. Since i have not discontinued receiving it, I guess it remains a better choice than whatever else is available. It is difficult to find good decaf coffee - this comes close.

portman.steve | Wed, 03/07/2012A good expresso on a par with the best offerings when fresh of a New Jersey Diner. Bright, there is a readily identifiable coffee flavor with sublimations of water and air. Compare with Smokey Joe's or Belle Expresso from Klatch and you'll see what I mean.

goldenrainnursery | Sun, 02/26/2012Although I enjoyed this coffee I found it a bit stronger than the smooth blend of Douwe Egberts I recently enjoyed at a local restaurant. I know the restaurant uses a liquid version with their specialized Douwe Egberts coffee machine and that could have been the difference or this could be a different roast. Once I tried making it a bit weaker it was more enjoyable to me. I would definitely buy it again as it does have a nice flavor.

goldenrainnursery | Sun, 02/26/2012My 81 year old mother is now only allowed to drink decaf. She has always complained about not being able to find a good tasting decaf coffee. We recently had brunch at a local restaurant that served Douwe Egberts Decaf and she thoroughly loved it. After getting the brand name from the waitress I went online to find the coffee. Mom tried her ground decaf the day after receiveing it in the mail and is finally enjoying her morning cup of coffee once again.

kaysemail | Wed, 01/18/2012LOVE THIS COFFEE....We have this coffee every time we get our haircuts at an exclusive Spa/Resort. We finally got the name of the coffee from a waiter in the restaurant. Did a search and found it at Roast-e. The coffee is smooth, with robust flavor without the bitterness some robust coffees have. It was just as good at home as it was in the restaurant.

dwfog | Sat, 12/31/2011I first enjoyed this coffee at a bed and breakfast in South Dakota. I loved its rich, nuanced flavor--just perfect with a scone for breakfast. I'll be the first to say that I'm not a coffee connoisseur; I drink even that horrid stuff that comes in hotel rooms (but at least I know it's horrid--I just need the caffeine). This coffee is far above anything I've ever tasted, smooth, rich and satisfying, but not too strong. It's a delicious way to start the day.

We have shared coffee with friends who like it to and hopefully will order it from you also. It is wonderful to grind, brew and drink this coffee first thing in the morning. This year for her birthday I randomly searched for it and found it here. I purchased it and had it delivered without complications and when she saw "Douwe Egberts" in the return address label, her expression was priceless and unforgettable. It was perfect.
