Douwe Egberts
Douwe Egberts was founded in 1753 by Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke Thysses. They began selling coffee, tea and tobacco in their small shop, 'De Witte Os' (literally 'The White Ox'), in Joure, the Netherlands. Originally their only customers were the local villagers.
However, about 1780 when his son Douwe Egberts joined the business, he built up a regional reputation by also supplying shop owners elsewhere, thereby spreading the family brand around the country. Gradually, Douwe and his descendants built a company that grew to become the Dutch market leader for coffee and tea, its core products.
Since 1978 Douwe Egberts has been allied to the Sara Lee Corporation, which opened new horizons worldwide. It is now one of the top three largest coffee roasters in the world.

We finally got the name of the coffee from a waiter in the restaurant. Did a search and found it at Roast-e. The coffee is smooth, with robust flavor without the bitterness some robust coffees have. It was just as good at home as it was in the restaurant.

dwfog | Sat, 12/31/2011I first enjoyed this coffee at a bed and breakfast in South Dakota. I loved its rich, nuanced flavor--just perfect with a scone for breakfast. I'll be the first to say that I'm not a coffee connoisseur; I drink even that horrid stuff that comes in hotel rooms (but at least I know it's horrid--I just need the caffeine). This coffee is far above anything I've ever tasted, smooth, rich and satisfying, but not too strong. It's a delicious way to start the day.

The waitress gave us the name of it and we really like this smooth cup of coffee. We have shared coffee with friends who like it to and hopefully will order it from you also. This year for her birthday I randomly searched for it and found it here. I purchased it and had it delivered without complications and when she saw "Douwe Egberts" in the return address label, her expression was priceless and unforgettable. It was perfect. I find I don't need to use as much as the coffee I had been using but just add a bit more for the extra "kick in the pants" I some times need. Well last Sunday afternoon my Mom and Stepdad were here, we had cooked lunch/dinner for them. I had a fresh homemade apple pie in the oven so about an hour after lunch/dinner I got up took the pie from the oven and put on a pot of my Douwe Egberts Coffee. We all went on and on about it, the smoothness of this coffee is unreal. I LOVE IT!!

jenlawson21 | jenlawson21 | Tue, 11/08/2011This coffee brand is one of our household favorites. We usually buy the Aroma Rood, but this time we wanted to try something new. I gave the coffee 4/5 cups because I am not a huge fan of dark roasts. But this cup of dark roast coffee was very smooth and not as bitter as I would expect from a dark roast, like just say Starbucks. We like our coffee strong, but it was still very smooth, easy to drink, yet dark. I'd buy it again just to change things up a bit.

don6641 | don6641 | Sun, 11/06/2011I first tried this brand of coffee at work, and I loved it so much. I decided to look for it online and when I found it I was super excited. The service was good, it only took a few days for delivery. I don't claim to be a coffee expert, but I have drank coffee everyday of my life for the past fifteen years so I have plenty to compare this coffee to. Anyways when I first opened the bag of coffee I knew immediately that these wasn't going to be anything special about this coffee. But I still had high hopes but ended up highly disappointed with this coffee after I brewed the first pot. I guess my biggest disappointment was that it was so expensive and there is absolutely nothing unique about its taste. There are atleast 5 store shelf brand coffees that cost half as much and are 100% more satisfying one of which is a $3.00 great value brand from walmart. The only reason why I didn't give this coffee one star is because the service is good. It's not a bad tasting coffee it's just a bad coffee considering its price. Also, the bad the coffee is packaged in is among the cheapest I've ever encountered.
