Chemex
Chemex® coffee makers, known for their hourglass shape, may be the only coffee makers designed by a chemist utilizing scientific principles. If the Chemex® reminds you of funnels and flasks from the biology lab, you’re correct. Indeed, the Chemex® design is based on a lab apparatus model and the chemical methods of extraction and filtration. The inventor/chemist even named his products after his vocation.
The Chemex® coffee maker and kettle are so well-designed they both received awards and are featured in a design museum. But how does the coffee taste? Because of the heat-proof laboratory-grade borosilicate glass of the Chemex®, the taste of the coffee is the only taste you’ll experience. Your coffee will be extracted perfectly because the shape of the funnel was designed according to scientific standards for perfect extraction. This attention to detail and individualizing of coffee brewing is a third wave coffee hallmark.
Find your Chemex® below and you’ll soon taste what the Third Wave is all about!

GREAT CUP (on Chemex Classic Glass...)
fatnat79 | Tue, 05/01/2012OG style of pour over coffee. Produces a clean cup of coffee with clarity to the brew. A little difficult to brew for more than a few people. Rinse those filters!

WORKS WELL - NEEDS RINSING (on Chemex Natural Pre-f...)
fatnat79 | Wed, 03/14/2012These filters are the only filters I know of that can be used for a Chemex other than a Coava Cone. I feel that this paper has a reduced flow rate compared to other pour over methods but grind size and quality of has a lot to do with it as well. Make sure to pre rinse your filters!
BALANCING ACT (on Chemex Classic Glass...)
EricBNC | Fri, 03/09/2012Recently I received a hand blown 8 cup Chemex with the wooden collar and I like it well enough. When it is 1/2 full (up to the raised dot below the spout) it is not so balanced to pour from since I cant rest my other hand on the bottom due to the hot temp - except for this one niggle it works great and makes a very clean cup of coffee - use a Kone or the Chemex filters for best results.
CHEMEX (on Chemex Classic Glass...)
infojules | Fri, 03/09/2012I think the Chemex is a nice change from using a french press on a daily basis. It makes a lovely smooth cup, no bitterness at all. You definitely want the Chemex filters to go with, and of course, some freshly ground beans. I really enjoy my Chemex!
A GEEKS COFFEE MAKER... (on Chemex Classic Glass...)
LJ Coffee | Fri, 03/09/2012My wife never quite knows what to get me for Christmas, but a quick look on here and she found the Chemex. This was one of the few brewing devices I had yet to embrace. Paired with Chemex branded filters, this yields a very clean cup and allows you to tweak the parameters of time, temp, etc. Overall, a great coffee maker.
MAKES A GREAT CUP (on Chemex Classic Glass...)
kingfisha | Fri, 03/09/2012The Chemex is a great method to brew coffees. The filter variety and brew time brings out coffee characteristics from the beans other method don't manage. Duration for brewing may be more involved and longer than for a drip brew, but it's well worth the wait. For many coffee varieties we brew them with 2 or 3 or 4 methods to find our favorite. Chemex is typically one of the favorites.
BREWING COFFEE IN A CHEMEX (on Chemex Classic Glass...)
kemical | Fri, 03/09/2012Brewing coffee in a Chemex yields a great clean cup of coffee. I recommend picking up the chemex brand of filters as they are thicker than average and are designed to work hand in hand with the glass brewers. A kettle with a narrow spout is also helpful so that you can control the water better as you pour.

GOOD INEXPENSIVE FILTERS, (on Chemex Natural Pre-f...)
avaserfi | Fri, 03/02/2012Good inexpensive filters, but I prefer a metal filter with the Chemex. Be sure to rinse these paper filters before use to avoid or minimize off flavors.
MY FAVORITE WAY TO BREW DRIP (on Chemex Classic Glass...)
avaserfi | Fri, 03/02/2012My favorite way to brew drip coffee. A good kettle, some well ground coffee and either paper or a kone filter for the best results. I think I prefer the handled version, but this is a very nice brewer too.
A NICE BREWER THAT WORKS (on Chemex Classic Glass...)
avaserfi | Fri, 03/02/2012A nice brewer that works very well. I wonder about how the wood portion will hold up over time, but am very happy with the build quality and final cup quality. A good kettle is needed to get the most of the brewer.

GLASS 8 CUP COFFEE MAKER (on Chemex Classic Glass...)
Judith22 | Thu, 02/02/2012Very stylish looking carafe. Love the looks of it. Brewed one of the best cups of coffee in it. Would most certainly recommend it. My biggest fear breaking it since it is made out of glass.
PRE FOLDED SQUARES (on Chemex Pre-folded Na...)
Judith22 | Thu, 02/02/2012Easy to use every time. It is a lot of paper for one filter, be nice if less paper could be used per filter. It is recycled however, which helps.

broseph | Sun, 11/13/2011not bad after a good rinse, but the whites are less papery (chemex filters in general are just papery)
