Chemex CM-6A is the 6-cup model from the Classic Series. It exhibits the characteristic Chemex design which speaks simple function within an elegant body. The hourglass shape is designed to extract the best taste from your coffee, aided by the use of glass, which doesn’t absorb nor release tastes and odors, contributing no taste of its own. Filters are made of high quality filter paper. The Chemex classic coffee makers feature an attractive polished wood collar and leather tie. Capacity equals 30 ounces.

Chemex® Brewing Instructions
1. Open the Chemex-Bonded® Coffee Filter into its cone shape. One side should have three layers. Place the cone in the top of your Chemex® with the thick portion toward the pouring spout.
2. Use Regular or Automatic Grind coffee only. Put one rounded tablespoon of coffee per 5 oz. cup into the filter cone. For stronger coffee, use more - there is never any bitterness in coffee brewed using the Chemex® method.
3. When the water is boiling, remove it from the heat until it stops boiling vigorously. It should now be at about 200ºF, a perfect brewing temperature. Pour a small amount of water over the coffee grounds, just enough to wet them without causing them to float. This is important because it allows the grounds to "bloom," releasing the desirable coffee elements.
4. After this first wetting simply pour more water, soaking the grounds each time, but keeping the water level well below the Chemex® top. Once the desired amount of coffee is brewed, dispose of the spent grounds by lifting out the filter.
You’re now ready to enjoy a perfect cup of coffee!

Includes a polished wood collar with leather tie (30 Ounce)
Height: 8 1/2 " Diameter: 5 1/8"
Note: Chemex defines “cup” as 5-ounces in size.

  • GREAT CUP

OG style of pour over coffee. Produces a clean cup of coffee with clarity to the brew. A little difficult to brew for more than a few people. Rinse those filters!

I think the Chemex is a nice change from using a french press on a daily basis. It makes a lovely smooth cup, no bitterness at all. You definitely want the Chemex filters to go with, and of course, some freshly ground beans. I really enjoy my Chemex!

  • A GEEKS COFFEE MAKER...

    LJ Coffee | Fri, 03/09/2012 - 19:03

My wife never quite knows what to get me for Christmas, but a quick look on here and she found the Chemex. This was one of the few brewing devices I had yet to embrace.

Paired with Chemex branded filters, this yields a very clean cup and allows you to tweak the parameters of time, temp, etc.

    Overall, a great coffee maker.

  • MAKES A GREAT CUP

The Chemex is a great method to brew coffees. The filter variety and brew time brings out coffee characteristics from the beans other method don't manage. Duration for brewing may be more involved and longer than for a drip brew, but it's well worth the wait. For many coffee varieties we brew them with 2 or 3 or 4 methods to find our favorite. Chemex is typically one of the favorites.

  • BREWING COFFEE IN A CHEMEX

    kemical | Fri, 03/09/2012 - 10:41

Brewing coffee in a Chemex yields a great clean cup of coffee. I recommend picking up the chemex brand of filters as they are thicker than average and are designed to work hand in hand with the glass brewers. A kettle with a narrow spout is also helpful so that you can control the water better as you pour.

  • A NICE BREWER THAT WORKS

    avaserfi | Fri, 03/02/2012 - 09:25

A nice brewer that works very well. I wonder about how the wood portion will hold up over time, but am very happy with the build quality and final cup quality. A good kettle is needed to get the most of the brewer.

  • WORKS WELL, AS OTHERS HAVE SAID

Am I the only one who doesn't like the leather tie, though? Superficial, I know, but this *is* a "design" piece. Also, I think I can taste the Chemex filters.

  • AWESOME CUP OF COFFEE!

    sen773 | Fri, 08/05/2011 - 17:52

My brother introduced Chemex to me. I have the 3-cup version (smaller) that works great for me every day. I bought these larger 6-cup versions for my brother and a friend. The 3-cup is nice for a single person, but if you're making it for guests it can get tedious. I grind fresh just before brewing with a burr grinder, between medium and coarse. You'll love it, and the ceremony of coffee is part of the fun :-)

  • CHEMEX.

This was how drip coffee was created - you're right if it looks like chemistry equipment, 'cause thats where this came from - a lab! Thus, the name Chemex.
I buy a basket to put my esprezso freshly ground beans in and rest on top. Heat water in a Mr. Coffee ( gets water to correct brewing temp.) slowly pour water over grounds to produce creme'.
Voile'! Makes the best cuppa' anywhere. For a gourmet flavor put a couple of cardamon seeds in while grinding
    Voile' voile' !I.

  • CHEMEX IS THE BEST

    sn2020 | Thu, 07/21/2011 - 13:32

Really amazing smoothness and taste. I use lots of methods of brewing and in comparing the Chemex brew with French Press
with the same coffee there's a noticeable difference with the Chemex. I recommend using the Chemex filters, hopefully soon at
    ROASTe.

Certainly one of the most 'attractive' ways to make coffee ever;definitely for the design purest. (I could use a smaller version--how about offering one?).
Results in very smooth cup of coffee--no bitterness, prob due to the heavy duty filters. Not the way to go if you want 'mouth-feel' coffee, however. Then I would revert to a french press. This is one coffee tool I don't mind leaving out on the counter.

  • 6-CUP CHEMEX

    broseph | Sat, 06/25/2011 - 01:08

This version is a little fragile (mine's chipped) but for as long as it holds up it'll make good coffee. It relies on a thick filter (white is best) that seeps against the glass: this slows down the brew and immerses the coffee for a while. Final cup is clean, aromatic, although sometimes a little muted. Drawbacks: kind of a pain to clean and there's a narrow range of batch effectiveness.
