  • FIVE FULL CUPS FOR FIRST ORDER FROM ROASTE

Kona coffe has never been very common for me. I have only been aware of it for approximately a decade, after observing it to be the most expensive variety for sale at some cafes on the USA's west coast. For unknown reasons, it seems to have no local presence in the northeast. There are lots of terrific coffees from all over the world; however, any others that are produced domestically outside of Hawaii are unknown. Because of the scarcity, it is difficult to compare Kona with other offerings; and the difficult baseline for rating is compounded due to a full city roast that also is not so prevalent.

Anyhow, my first order of two pounds arrived today and was remarkable. The beans were dark in color and in fine condition. It brewed into a great cup of coffee. There was not an overwhelming amount of body, acidity, or hints of spice. If anything, its qualities were toward the dark and earthy side; but it would be best described as well balanced.

  • FULL ROAST!

I have enjoyed this coffee from Morning Glory. But be advised Full City Roast is a FULL roast. A little dark for my taste... but it is a very good coffee. Wish they had a lighter roast.

  • I RECEIVED FRENCH ROAST INSTEAD OF FULL CITY ROAST

    ckazanci | Fri, 04/15/2011 - 15:29

Kona beans are great, but you loose the flavor if they are over-roasted. The aromatic compounds and oils within the beans (that we pay $$$ for) get burned out and the coffee will taste like any other bad coffee. To my surprise, that is what I got. Most reviews were great, so I didn't expect that. Beans are all shiny. It is OK to have droplets (of caramelized sugar) in Full City Roast, but the beans I received were covered all over, making it taste worse than the $9/lbs coffee beans I can pick up from the local coffee shop. I would describe the roast as French or Vienna. I won't order from this roaster again.

I have tasted many Kona coffees over the past 10 years and this is now my favorite. Sure it has a little cost to it but hey, you only live once. I will be buying more of this for sure.

This coffee is just about perfect: full-bodied; rich-tasting; low-acid; smooth.

  • MORNING GLORY KONA

This was the best Kona coffee that I have tasted. I especially like the full city roast and that Kowali Farms is a smaller coffee farm that does not use pesticides and tries to be "earth friendly". This coffee tasted better than the 100% Kona coffee that I roasted myself from another small Kona farm. Will definitely order again. A little disappointed to see that the price was raised from $20 to $25 per lb.
