The super-smooth flavor of this tiny round bean is considered by connoisseurs to be coffee's best of the best. The peaberry is discovered in less than 5% of the total harvest. Because this coffee is very rare, there is a limited supply that quickly runs out.
What Is Peaberry?
Most coffee cherries contain two beans of approximately equal size. The two beans grow squished together in the same cherry so they look like two halves. Occasionally one of the two beans is never fertilized or is damaged early in development so the other bean grows by itself without being squished into a half bean shape. This single, small, pea-shaped bean is called peaberry and only occurs in about 3-5% of the total crop.
Since peaberry beans are round there are no edges to get over cooked or burned in the roasting process. Roasting a batch of nothing but peaberry makes is possible to get every part of every bean roasted to the exact same level. This has given peaberry a reputation for being smoother in flavor than most other coffee. Roasting has a big effect on cupping quality so anything that affects the roasting process can easily affect the final quality of the coffee. It's too bad peaberry is such a tiny percentage of the total crop.
Estate Grown 100% Kona Coffee
"Estate grown" means our coffee is nurtured by us from beginning to end to ensure the best possible quality. "100%" means our coffee is always pure Kona coffee, it is never mixed with lower grade coffees such as Kona Blend. Growing and producing high quality Kona coffee is our top priority.
Ground vs Whole Bean
At this time all our coffee is sold as whole beans. Whole beans retain their freshness much longer than ground coffee and is ideal for anyone with a grinder. Let us know if you would prefer pre-ground coffee.
Finalist in Gevalia's 2008 & 2010 Kona Coffee Cupping Competition.

REVIEWS & COMMENTS
DISAPPOINTED!
spartytx1994 | Tue, 12/27/2011 - 15:39I get coffee from another coffee club, and got a Christmas gift card for ROASTe, so I thought I would try it.
I picked this peaberry from Kona Earth, and was very disappointed. To be honest, I thought it would be better than my other coffee club that has peaberry from Tanzania freshly roasted and shipped.
I make all my coffee from whole beans freshly ground before adding water using a french press. I drink my coffee black to get all the flavor of the bean without cream or sugar to get in the way.
I do not recommend this to anyone that wants a good consistent cup. It was over roasted and over priced.
LOVED IT!
trufaith602 | Fri, 11/25/2011 - 18:44I absolutely loved this coffee. I'm not expert enough to say whether it had a nutty taste or whatnot, but it was DEEELISH!
GREAT - USED TO MAKE NON-BITTER COFFEE LIQUEUR
silo | Mon, 10/24/2011 - 23:46Really good--the smoothness really went over well in a coffee liqueur I made. It was also great for espresso.

A DELICIOUS SPECIAL TREAT
samlaffey | Tue, 09/13/2011 - 11:35We never spend this much on coffee--I mean, if one can afford to do so on a regular basis then more power to them, but for us, this was a special treat. It really is different from any other coffee I've ever tasted in a way that's hard to describe. It's hearty and smooth and I'm sorry that we went through it so quickly!
Really enjoyed this as a special occasion coffee and can't wait to celebrate with it some time in the future :)

TASTS GRAET, NO ACID STOMACH
holzinu | Sun, 08/14/2011 - 19:24We love your Kona Peaberry. It is smooth, and does not upset My wife's stomach, as most other coffees do.

KONA PEABERRY IS FANTASTIC
acalliste | Mon, 06/06/2011 - 07:46First time trying this. I wasn't sure about it with the first sip as it was so different from anything I ever tasted, but by the second or third sip I knew I loved it. It has a unique, sweet flavor all its own. Highly recommended!
GEVALIA CUPPING COMPETITION FINALIST
Kona Earth | Fri, 11/26/2010 - 19:10All of Kona was hit with a bad drought last year (late 2009). Kona Earth made it through and our trees are totally recovered. This year's crop is as strong as ever, in quantity as well as quality. As proof, not only is our coffee selling better than ever, we also were awarded finalist in the 2010 Gevalia Cupping Competition.
KONA REDISCOVERED!
j_dubyah | Thu, 07/08/2010 - 20:57My first reunion with Kona in a long time and a wonderful revisit it was! Peaberries capture more of a rich, full flavor of what is already a spectacular of coffee flavor. A definite hit, especially prepared via the French press.
MAKES A SWEET TASTING LATTE
chasemonster | Sun, 06/20/2010 - 18:30I ground them up and made shots of espresso with these beans and they blend very well with steamed milk.
100% KONA COFFEE - KONA EARTH - PEABERRY

KONA EARTH PEABERRY
schnog426 | Thu, 06/03/2010 - 22:17This is absolutely without a doubt the most incredible coffee I've ever tasted!!!! I had always loved the smell of coffee but hated the aftertaste.....not any more. There is absolutely no bitterness, acidity, or dry aftertaste with this incredible coffee.
One caveat....if you're going to invest in this special coffee, do get yourself a really good grinder that will grind extremely fine coffee so you can get the maximum flavor. It's really worth it!rTjTt
SMOOTH CUP OF JOE
mikeg328 | Fri, 03/19/2010 - 22:54The peaberry has an excellent flavor that is rich without being overwhelming and has a pleasant aftertaste which quickly disappears.
It’s clear that Kona Earth takes great care in roasting and packaging their coffees to preserve these values resulting in an exceptional cup of java.
DELICIOUS
allison.spinelli | Tue, 02/23/2010 - 09:23As a fan of light to medium roasts, I love this coffee. Its not too acidic and is quite smooth. While there seems to be an over saturation of "Kona Coffee" (even though most are just blends with only 10% or so), there is nothing like 100% kona. One of my favorite memories from a recent trip to Hawaii is the coffee. I highly recommend it.
KONA KONA KONA
Nathanael Robbins | Sun, 01/17/2010 - 20:37I have had the pleasure of having a few different Kona's and this one is by far one of the top!
I highly suggest you try it!
