  • DISAPPOINTING

    MNMarie | Wed, 11/23/2011 - 12:32

I have loved the bold coffees served in Brazil, and was disappointed with this. The flavor is very bland. We had to add an additional 25% coffee to the brew cup to get a flavor that wasn't weak. At that point it was just okay, but tends to have a burnt and acidic flavor when the extra was added.

  • TRUE COFFEE

I enjoy the smoothness - yet the flavor is a little too mild for my taste. My husband loved it!

  • FULL FLAVORED COFFEE

    EricBNC | Mon, 08/29/2011 - 19:28

A squeeze of the puffy bag gives up hazelnut, caramel and cocoa - like a candy bar. The beans are dark and have a slight sheen - they look nice. The bag carries a roast date of 8/2011 embossed into the upper seal - the part likely to be cut off to open the bag - but a dating just the same.

I backed off a notch on my grinder since the bean is darker than the last run and got lucky since the pull from my Gaggia timed out right and the color and taste are nice. This coffee packs a punch as a straight espresso shot but probably holds up well in milk because of this. I like strong tastes and I don't do a lot of milk so I have no problem with the strength - think 9 or 10 out of 10 for intensity though in case a milder blend suits your style.

I get a dark cocoa note and roast nut in the initial sip and a dark coffee bite in the finish - I think this would be considered a Southern Italy style blend based on what I am tasting. If you want a break from the cinnamon roast Kenyan single origin espresso (not that there is anything wrong with that sometimes) that seems popular lately and want to get a full flavored traditional tasting shot then this one is right up your alley.

As an Americano the cocoa and caramel sweetness of the dry aroma comes through nicely and joins a light smoky taste in the long lasting finish. Very creamy, and full bodied - it is going into my auto drip tomorrow morning for sure.

  • SUPERB!

    BoardnMatt | Wed, 08/17/2011 - 14:02

This is a delicious brew! It has a nice bold flavor (which I love), but still finishes smooth. I would recommend this coffee to anyone who enjoys full flavored coffee.

  • FRENCH ROAST IN DISGUISE

    levy.yurista | Thu, 06/02/2011 - 11:52

Please be warned - this roast, while potentially complex and coming from high quality beans, is dark enough to be considered a French roast. This means that when making an espresso cup or a cappuccino drink the aftertaste lingering in your mouth long after the drink is drunk is that of an ashtray. The main reason French roast is roasted so dark has to do with the very strong cigarettes they (used to?) smoke (the Gitanes) which needed a counterpart when coffee was drunk while smoking them.
I personally believe Italian roasts offer the perfect blend of dark roasting and taste complexity without having your mouth feels like you have just kissed an ashtray after having coffee. Unfortunately the Cerrado Gold does not provide this level of satisfaction - can't wait to finish the package and move on.

  • NOT IMPRESSED

    xprzzo | Fri, 02/04/2011 - 22:13

While the packaging states that Iron roast to order, a roast date would be helpful.

While advertised as a Full City, I think this is at least a full city +, if not a Vienna. IMHO it is roasted to a point where the roast character clearly overshadows the origin character and the Cerrado will no longer show you what it has to offer.

  • LITTLE BETTER THAN CLASSIC ROAST

    skellertex | Sun, 02/14/2010 - 09:50

Smooth, not bitter, slightly more flavor than classic roast, but still sort of bland.

  • VERY IMPRESSED

    JanelBurke | Mon, 01/18/2010 - 10:14

A friend of mine bought Iron Brew's Cerrado Gold for me, as they knew I loved coffee. The first sip is very bold, and then it smooths out completely. It keeps the bold-dark flavor but the initial kick subsides and makes it easy and delicious for drinking. I plan to order more once my bag is empty, and by the looks of it, I would price this gourmet coffee at a much higher price!! Keep the delicious roasts coming, Iron Brew.
