A full-bodied medium roast, Higher Ground's Sumatran presents deep floral undertones, creating a light cup characterized by a buttery chocolate finish.

 

Higher Ground prides itself on its coffees that are all organic, Fair Trade, and shade-grown. Allowing the growers to keep their family farms, the Fair Trade certification ensures that these farmers benefit from economic and educational programs, while giving them the chance to grow a high-quality organic bean. The coffee plants grow in the forest canopy's shade—guaranteeing the continued survival of the forests and natural habitat for countless plant and animal species.

Members of the Gayo Co-op are small-scale coffee farmers dedicated to producing 100% shade-grown, organic coffee. Significant premiums earned from selling to the Fair Trade and organic markets allow this co-op to contribute to a wide variety of programs, including:


• A credit union to extend small loans to families in the cooperative
• Upgrades to processing facilities
• Community infrastructure projects, such as clean water supply, local roads, and schools
• Rehabilitation of degraded lands and unproductive coffee trees, as well as income diversification with other shade grown crops

    As a long time drinker of Starbuck's Sumatra coffee, I found this to be a better cup of joe. It has the same flavor, but not quite the bitterness of SB. My wife is a Sumatra snob and has me ordering more of this coffee. We use the whole bean coffee in a Cusinart Grind and Brew thermal carafe machine. Highly recommended!

    It still has that Sumatra kick to it, but very smooth and pleasing overall. Even after 5+ minutes in the french press it was still developing additional flavors and complexity, not even beginning to turn south. A really well crafted product, really a 4.5 but since Sumatra is pretty much my favorite region ATM I'm giving it 5 stars.

    The coffee itself is 5 star, but I just cant seem to give them 5 stars considering it took them over 5 business days to ship out the coffee. But seriously speaking, if you want that bold flavorful cup of joe with no over bearing acidic aftertaste, this coffee is for you. Sumatran Coffee is my favorite and Higher Ground's Sumatran Coffee hits all the marks. So if you don't mind the wait for great coffee, try it out!

    I absolutely love the darker roasts, this one is great with a lot of character, I am actually looking forward to get up in the morning to get my cups of Sumatran. It is also important to me that this Coffee is Organic, Fair Trade and shade grown.

    This was not a bad coffee and i love that this company's products are fair trade and organic. I thought this was just a little bitter for my personal tastes. I would buy it again but only for occasional cups of coffee not my go to in the morning cup.
