Description

This exceptional coffee is grown in the central highlands of Peru at extreme elevations in the Apurimac River Valley.  Because of the extraordinary altitude,  Higher Ground’s Peruvian beans are endowed with a bright acidity. The resulting cup of coffee sports a wonderful aroma, a robust body, and finishes sweetly.

Higher Ground prides itself on its coffees that are all organic, Fair Trade, and shade-grown. Allowing the growers to keep their family farms, the Fair Trade certification ensures that these farmers benefit from economic and educational programs, while giving them the chance to grow a high-quality organic bean. The coffee plants grow in the forest canopy's shade—guaranteeing the continued survival of the forests and natural habitat for countless plant and animal species.

100% Organic, Fair Trade, Shade Grown Coffee

Features

FAIRER MEANS
Higher Ground’s Peruvian beans are grown in the Apurimac region, between 1300 and 1800 meters elevation, on very small family farms. This coffee, like all Higher Ground coffees, is grown with care under the shade of the forest canopy. The Peruvian beans in particular are grown alongside avocados, oranges, and other fruit trees. In this way, families of the COCLA Coop have been able to diversify their crops and sell those goods in local markets. With higher incomes from Fair Trade sales, the co-op has been able to improve:

• education for families of Coop members
• available healthcare opportunities
• the overall system of organic production—with high standards and increasing investment in coffee quality
