Featuring chocolate and caramel undertones, Higher Ground’s Bolivian is grown at high altitudes in the De Montaña Coop. A refreshingly flavorful coffee, the resulting cup is light, fruity, and ends with a nutty smooth finish.
Higher Ground prides itself on its coffees that are all organic, Fair Trade, and shade-grown. Allowing the growers to keep their family farms, the Fair Trade certification ensures that these farmers benefit from economic and educational programs, while giving them the chance to grow a high-quality organic bean. The coffee plants grow in the forest canopy's shade—guaranteeing the continued survival of the forests and natural habitat for countless plant and animal species.
100% Organic, Fair Trade, Shade Grown Coffee
FAIRER MEANS
The Fair Trade alternative has allowed the farmers of CENAPROC who grow Higher Ground coffee to make many improvements in their quality of life and quality of crop. Some of these improvements include:
•Allowing small family farms to keep their land and maintain organic coffee production, a tradition that began long ago in the area, approximately 100 years ago.
•Establishing a revolving fund for marketing and coffee processing—allowing the Coop to increasingly invest in quality agriculture and improve the coffee crop year after year
•Establishing a community microcredit system through which Coop members may receive personal loans

OK
kingfisha | Wed, 09/14/2011 - 19:21Bolivian coffees are typically high on my list for a good cup. This order took a long time to ship from Higher Ground (August-2011), and I'm surprised with the end result. The coffee is only OK.
It doesn't contain the brightness as noted in a previous review (supposedly similar to Caribou's Daybreak Morning Blend). The quality of the cup improves as it cools, it is sweet, and, overall, just an OK coffee. I wonder if it's a previous year's harvest.
