Bialetti Venus Stainless Steel Stovetop Coffee Maker 6-Cup is a stainless steel version of the stovetop espresso coffeemaker first patented by the Italian Alfonso Bialetti in 1933. His company still produces the most commonly used moka pot in Europe.
Mokas, which can be electrical or stovetop, come in different sizes from 1-cup to 12-cups. It’s important to remember that to Europeans, an espresso “cup” is a 2-oz. measure. A 12 cup capacity is really only equivalent to three 8 oz. cups. ROASTe recommends that its customers purchase at least 1 size larger Bialetti than they think they need; our customers have been happiest with the larger Bialettis to compensate for the small European-sized cup measurements.

I prefer this to the aluminum models, since you don't get a metallic aftertaste as you sometimes can with the classic aluminum designs. Straightforward to use, easy to clean -- a great coffeemaker.

chrismunsey | Mon, 03/29/2010 - 10:28I have used moka stovetop coffee makers for years, ever since falling in love with the simplicity of use while living in Italy. The Bialetti Venus is beautiful, well crafted, and looks great. However, it does NOT, as it boasts make 6 cups (2 oz portions) of coffee. It barely makes 3 2 oz portions! I tried pouring 12 ounces of water into the bottom canister and it fills past capacity.
The company should really rename their products to accurately reflect how much coffee they make. While I will keep this machine because I love the way it looks, I'm going to have to buy a bigger machine. My advise to those looking to buy a mokka is to divide their proposed cup size in 2, ie. a 10 cup coffee maker will probably yield 5 very small (2 oz) cups of coffee.
