The Yama Tabletop Coffee Siphon 5-Espresso-Cups includes a warmer for liquid burning alcohol so that you can brew your after-dinner coffee drinks right on your table! This feature also makes the Tabletop Siphon a great amenity for restaurants.

To make coffee with the Yama Tabletop Coffee Siphon, start with a slightly finer grind of coffee. Drop the washable, reusable cloth covered filter into the infusion chamber so that the chain hangs down into the glass siphon tube. Pull the chain down and hook it to the bottom of the siphon tube. Fill the bottom carafe to the mark for the desired number of cups with hot water and place one measuring spoon of coffee per cup in top chamber.

Fill the burner with "soot free" denatured alcohol, ethyl or an ethyl / isopropyl mixture that's high on the ethanol side. (See note below on alcohol.)

It takes about 4 minutes to heat the water which is siphoned to the top chamber. Allow 2 minutes for the brewing. Remove the coffee from the heat source; it will return to the bottom carafe. Remove the top, placing it in its convertible lid/stand.

A word about the alcohol: isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) tends to burn hotter than ethyl or methyl alcohols, but also burns orange and produces a lot of soot.  This is available at hardware or outdoor stores.

If one of the siphon's chambers breaks during shipping, please let us know and we'll replace the chamber at our expense.

  • UPDATE ON YAMA REVIEW

    wihalpin | Tue, 04/26/2011 - 14:03

About that coffee maker we got for our son for his birthday. We went to visit him last week and got to sample the coffee for ourselves. We still give it a 5 bean rating, not only for flavor and speed at which the coffee brews, but also for entertainment value in watching the whole process. What fun!

  • AWESOME

    claude | Tue, 04/26/2011 - 12:18

This is one awesome coffee maker! It worked really well once I figured out how to use it. The included heating element is a bit of a pain to use with the fuel and all. A butane burner is highly recommended, but it's a bit on the pricey side. A definite winner here!

  • YAMA COFFEE MAKER

    csyacko | Tue, 04/26/2011 - 12:06

I simply love my yama siphon coffee maker. I have the stovetop version but considering the table top for outside in 8 cup. The coffee has the cleanest pure taste of any coffee maker that I have tried and I have many. I use mine on the glass cooktop without any problems, warming water in kettle to warm and then heating coffee maker on level 5. My husband who is not even a coffee drinker loves the coffee because it is just so clean.

We recently purchased this coffee maker for our son for his birthday, and he was thrilled! The engineer in him loves the gizmo-aspect of it, and it makes darn good coffee. Bravo to Roaste for offering such a good product!

I purchased this coffee pot for my son's 30th Birthday. It was a huge success. The coffee was so delicious. Plus it was fun watching it work. I highly recommend it to all. What a great conversation piece for any party.

  • GOOD VALUE

    broseph | Mon, 11/22/2010 - 17:09

This comes with a wick burner (and does not come with a stirrer, despite the listing). There's not a huge variety when it comes to tabletop siphons. Yamas are easy to find and represent a good value. The problem is the glass is rather thin and will likely break on your at some point. Conas are more durable but wayyy overpriced and the glass filter limits your flexibility. Harios are my personal favorite, but they're hard to find in the US...

  • SIPHON COFFEE

    danieljheff | Tue, 10/12/2010 - 17:53

This coffee maker will change the way you look at coffee. The combination of the total emersion brewing process combined with the crisp light flavors of the filtered drip process makes this coffee the most flavorful ad enjoyable coffee experience available.

  • REALLY FUN AND TASTY WAY TO

    clumeng | Sun, 08/29/2010 - 14:09

Really fun and tasty way to brew coffee when you have the time. Can control every part of the brewing process well. Would strongly recommend an upgrade to a propane burner instead of the isopropyl burner provided. It is much more powerful and controllable.

Be careful as these are fragile - in other words - don't let your 2 yo near it or it can/will shatter when they tip it over on the counter top. Sad but true

  • SMOOTH COFFEE AND FUN TO USE

    penrod_25 | Mon, 03/29/2010 - 11:13

Makes a good cup of coffee and is nice to look at too. Even my non-coffee drinking wife enjoyed the brewing process.

It is also easier to clean than I expected.
