pblais | pblais | Thu, 12/01/2011Keurig controls the filters tightly as far as who can sell them and they own most of the licenses to make K cups. They just recently boosted the price on the filters since it's not totally in their interest not to. They also are not made as well as they used to be too. You do get some odd ball shaped filters, but I can mostly work them into shape. After a few hundred you get the feel for it:) I checked around and eRoast still has the best price if you buy two of the 3 packs of 50 and get the free shipping. Other places will nail you on the shipping. eBay was not better! Amazon used to be the best price but not any more. It's why I'm here. They ship quickly and it seems to just work. I really think the EZ-Cup is the best roll your own approach to using a Keurig. The filter basket - sucks and is a mess to clean on top of that! I buy my own coffee and have two pods to load in the morning. I run two back to back and I'm good to go. I love the machine and while some of the k-cups are tasty if you want a cheaper deal then this method is clearly the best tasting / easiest to use. I still want a great cup of coffee! It takes a little practice putting on the lids. Overloading the filter is not advised. Two tablespoons is really the limit. Don't pack them tight either. Loosely loaded with a tad of room at the top is the best for a bold cup of coffee! The coffee expands with the hot water. Regular grind is better than fine grind! Store bought ground coffee works fine. if you think about it the K-Cups don't get made all that special. It's really the filter paper that makes to coffee come out nice with a great temperature control. Screens are just not good enough.

I use all of my own coffee, grind my own beans, and have had a 99% success rate. A few of the filters blew out their bottoms, but the filter paper has been reformulated and that problem seems to be solved.

With the paper filters just toss them in the trash after using and pop a fresh one in, it is quick and easy. This is especially great for those who prefer their own brand of coffee and save on costs as opposed to the K-cups. So i am very happy with these paper filters and recommend them to anyone.

The only reason I gave 4 beans instead of a 5 bean rating is that they should be designed slightly longer (with maybe the indent for that spring mechanism to fit all the way down inside the EZ-Cup), so that I could put a bit more of my coffee in there for a stronger brew.

With a peculator or drip coffee makes it takes 4 to 5 teaspoons of coffee grinds to make a single cup of coffee. With the EZ-Cup it only takes two teaspoons! That way my Tim Horton's last twice as long. A friend of mine bought me a My K-Cup and I can tell you it make horrible coffee. Don't really understand it! I prefer the EZ-Cup and its a cinch to clean.

I drop the whole paper filter, grounds and all, into my compost pile. Cleaning out the hot metal filter to brew another cup was kind of a pain.

We love the Keurig machine because we can choose when to have a fresh cup of coffee, and we each have a different favorite kind of coffee. so this makes the most sense to us. they work great, no blown-out wasted filters, just perfect coffee every time.

If cost means more to you than convenience, go for it. I tend to use the K-cups half the time and the EZ-Cup half the time. With the EZ-Cup, you also have to continually buy special paper filters, which cuts down on the cost savings.

I cut a 3/8 section out of the bottom of a used K Cup, pushed it in to hold the spring down and loaded in the filter and coffee. Works fantastic. Great strong coffee every time.

The only negative I have found is the sample filters that come with the cup. All 5 of them broke when I tried to use them. I'm glad I decided to give it a try one more time with the filters I had purchased because they seem to be made better and don't break.

The only improvement would be to be able to fill it up a bit more so we could make a large cup at the brew strength we like--which is strong. But it works fine for the small or medium cup size.

The solution that I recommend that has always worked for them is using coffee ground on the FINE (Espresso) setting. Regular and course ground coffee will give a weak cup of coffee, in my experience. To find out why, just open up an original K-Cup. What grind is inside? Very fine ground powdery coffee. The same Fine/ Espresso ground coffee should go in your EZ-Cup for best results.

You use this with filters made especially for the cup. The filters come in a package of 50. There should be a larger package but there you are. This is a great, less expensive way to use your Keurig.

I am using a store bought coffee made for drip coffee makers The strength of the coffee is just right for a typical size coffee cup using the next to the largest cup size setting on my Keurig. It is easy to fill and easy to clean. I have no complaints. The only reason I didn't give it a five bean raiting is because it doesn't walk across the floor, put its own paper inside, fill itself with coffee, close the lid snuggly, place itself in the machine, check to make sure Keurig has plenty water in reservoir, and push the buttons. Then it would certainly get FIVE beans, lol.

We bought this one as a gift for a friend - we are so enthralled with the ease of use.... we love Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla coffee, and now we can have a cup any time we want to. Clean up is a snap - a lot easier than the metal filter thingee keurig sells. you just dump the paper filter and coffee into the trash and you are ready to load a new one. We just had 6 house guests, and our Keurig was going night and day - all different flavors, caffeine, and decaffeinated - just a few pennies a cup when you use your own coffee. One tip: don't store the ground coffee in the freezer - it won't brew through the paper filter correctly. Definitely a must have accessory! Roaste has the best prices too!

My experience has shown that about 1 in 5 of the paper filters have broken and some coffee grounds ended up in my coffee. Be careful not to pack the coffee or push down on the filter when filling. After about 2 months of using the EZ-Cup filters, I have been experiencing about a 75% failure where the paper filter breaks and coffee grounds end up in the cup. I will try another package of filters to see if that is the problem. After trying another package of filters, I still have them breaking. My solution that works now is to use 2 filters instead of 1.

pixiedoodle | pixiedoodle | Tue, 07/20/2010After repeated attempts to make a good cup of coffee using our own fresh ground coffee and using tips posted in reviews from another web site, I've nearly given up on the ez-cup. No matter what I do the filter breaks open and spills ground coffee all over the inside of my keruig machine and I spend 20 minutes trying to get it all cleaned up. It seems the only way to make the EZ-cup work is to use 2 filters for each brew and even then the coffee is not as strong as it should be due to a design flaw with the bottom being too open. It should have been made with a closed bottom except for a small hole for the needle to simulate the way the k-cups brew. I was hoping the ez-cup would help eliminate all the land fill fodder that using the k-cups produces but it's a no go except for the occasional time I want to use my own flavored coffee and don't mind having to use 2x the filters.

john.allshouse | Tue, 07/20/2010There is some experimenting required to use these, but it i snot too difficult. My advice: open up an unused K-Cup, and try to match the grind (if you grind your own coffee) and amount of coffee, and use that as a starting point for the EZ-cup. I found that a real fine grind did not work well at all...surprisingly the brew came out ultra weak. After some thought, I concluded that it has to do with flow properties of the water through the coffee (too fine a grind restricts the flow to such an extent that the water finds the easiest way out is to avoid flowing through the coffee much at all, and exits ASAP with little extraction). I think there is an optimum grind, and its probably real close to what's in the commercially prepared K-Cups. So, start there and tweak the grind in small increments. I had NO problems so far with filters breaking. I discarded the filters that came with the EZ-Cup and am using the new stronger ones.

Check the automotive department of your local Walmart for some interesting shapes and sizes. They're cheap. A standard coffee-scoop portion poured through the funnel makes filling the EZ-cup a no-brainer. I keep ground decaf in a refrigerated, vacuum-sealed canister for the rare occasions that I need a cup of low-octane joe. The EZ-Cup and my Keurig haven't failed me yet! Regarding Roaste.com... Do you suppose the pricing of the EZ-Cup & 150 filters bundle was just bad luck us, or a calculated money-making strategy for Roaste.com? Free shipping is $25 and above. The bundle just happens (Not!) to be $24.95. Go ahead, see if YOU can find a cheap item to get you past that missing 5-cents. I dare you! Come on Roaste, would it kill you to be just a little less greedy?

While the paper filters seem a little expensive at approx 10c each when compared to the pre-filled Keurig cups, the cheaper of which I've seen are approx 43c each. The EZ-Cup and paper filters offer a significant saving, I estimate each cup of coffee costs 25-30c including coffee, filter, water and electricity. The EZ-Cup and Paper filters score bigh time over the reusable K-cup because clean-up is a breeze. Pop the lid off the EZ-Cup, remove the filter and grounds in a neat little package and drop into the back yard composting gadget. Compared to lifting out the basket, emptying the grounds and rinsing / washing the basket. The EZ-Cup scores on water conservation too. Top that off with how easy it was to order from ROASTe, and how quickly the order was filled and shipped an overall pleasant experience.

Filters are not strong enough on the bottom - they have a hole in them every time I have tried one. I would not recommend either of these products to anyone. As a matter of fact, I really should be returning them and getting my money back. I tried the filters with the EZ Cup and my screen filter that came with my keurig machine - for both, the filters had holes in the bottom.

The reason I rate it at three out of five is because, though it is very good quality coffee, it isn't my favorite flavor. It took them 5 days to ship out my order and when it arrived a week after ordering they had only shipped half of what I paid for. I eventually got the other half 13 days after ordering it, but since I'd rather get it in 3-5 days, I think I'll order elsewhere next time.

After having some Ethiopian in a restaurant in Minneapolis out of a french press. Anyway the owner of the company called me because I had some questions. So I gave it 4 beans instead of 3 because he was outstanding.

billlyons | billlyons | Fri, 06/25/2010Good tasting coffee. I liked the flavor and will probably buy it again. When the coffee was delivered, it was 12 days after roasting date. Most of the coffee I have ordered through ROASTe has been roasted less than a week and some of it only a few days. Tried another pound of PNG and it was better than the first time I tried it. Also it had a more recent roast date than before. This was a full city roast which I believe was a darker roast than last time. Definately will buy again. The whole family and guests all said how much they like this coffee.

Milganite | Milganite | Tue, 06/08/2010I eagerly went to the mail box because I knew a new pound of coffee would be waiting for me (this coffee tour is SO much fun!!!)! :) Of course, I had to brew a pot just to see how the coffee tasted. The aroma, when I opened the bag, was very nice however did not knock my socks off and I was feeling bit worried! Once the coffee was finished brewing, I was pleasantly surprised! I cannot say enough how good this coffee is! It has a bold and very pleasant taste that I love (hard to explain, but earthy/woodsy might be a start)! Will definitely add this coffee to my list to buy again!

Scott Lush | Scott Lush | Sat, 05/09/2009Chazzano's coffee comes so fresh that it filled my office with the smell of coffee being roasted. When I poured hot water over the grinds, the mixture bubbled up (bloomed), indicating that this coffee had been roasted only about 2 days prior. You'll NEVER experience that with conventional coffee! It came packaged with some nice colorful confetti paper and a free scoop and pen! Frank is the owner roaster and it shows how much he cares about his coffee. The label on the back of the bag is worth the money alone. And the coffee was terrific. Crisp, clear, distinctive, with a kind of earthy mossy chewiness but not the overpowering earthiness as I've tasted in Sumatran or Sulawasi coffees. Highly recommended!
