Baratza Virtuoso Preciso Coffee Grinder is an upgrade to the Virtuoso Grinder; it features an entirely new conical burr set that is precise and fast. In regard to precision, the burrs produce an exacting espresso grind as well as the demanding uniform grind for French Press, with minimal fines. And when it comes to speed - with the Preciso - coffee throughput is 2.4 times faster than with our other conical burr grinders.

Baratza Virtuoso Preciso Coffee Grinder Features:

The Preciso adds to the Virtuoso’s great features extra precision and control. It retains the Virtuoso’s 40 grind adjustment steps, but a second micro adjustment lever further divides each of the 40 steps into 11 distinct settings. The smaller steps provide more control over the espresso grind, enabling you to pull that perfect shot.

Each Preciso includes Baratza's innovative PortaHolder, which makes grinding for espresso easier and helps make cleanup a snap.

New Conical Burr set: The Preciso’s new 40 mm conical burrs grind coffee at over 2.5 times as fast as the Virtuoso (1.8 g/sec to 2.5 g/sec. depending on the particle size). What's more, the particle distribution (especially for drip and press) is very unimodal, meaning there are very few fines in the coffee. The result is a cleaner, brighter, no-silt cup of coffee.

Adjustment:

Macro Adjust: As with the Virtuoso, with a turn of the hopper and the 40 settings, you can quickly adjust from fine for espresso to course for French Press.

The New Micro Adjust Allows you to dial In the perfect espresso grind – a secondary micro adjust lever further divides each of the 40 Macro positions into 11 distinct steps. These steps (10 microns each), allow the precise turn of the grind for the perfect shot.

Hands-Free Operation: Each Preciso comes with the regular 5 oz. grounds bin and the PortaHolder, which permits hands-free grinding into the espresso portafilter.

Preciso retains these great additional Virtuoso features:

Pulse Button and 60-Second Timers: The front-mounted pulse button allows you to grind directly into an espresso filter basket, and the 60-second adjustable timer with segmented graphics can be set for easily repeatable grind times.

Calibration System: An innovative burr calibration system ensures that each grinder has the full range of grind – from fine enough for an espresso machine to coarse enough for a French Press.

DC Motor: A powerful DC motor turns slowly, permitting a cool, quiet operation and extended grinding time. There is an automatically resetting thermal cut-off switch.

Bean Hopper: 8 oz.

Grounds bin: 5 oz. anti-static

  • PRECISELY GROUND COFFEE EVERY TIME!

    m.prowler | Sat, 05/12/2012 - 18:53

With the Preciso grinder you have full control over the level of your grind. There are two different levels of adjustment, "micro" and "macro", so you can fine tune it to your personal preference (and brew method). I use it to grind beans for both an espresso machine and a french press, and it does a great job every time.

When my model arrived the bean hopper had a piece at the bottom broken off, which made it not secure into the grinder completely. Luckily this didn't keep the unit from working great, and ROASTe customer service quickly got a new hopper sent to me directly from Baratza. AWESOME!!

Definitely impressed by both ROASTe and Baratza, I will be coming back again and again!

  • A NICE GRINDER

If you are shopping for grinders under $300 and you want to make some espresso this should be at the top of your list (I don't even know of another grinder to put on that list).

  • BEST GRINDER UNDER $300

    samuellaw178 | Tue, 01/31/2012 - 12:13

In my opinion, this is a very good grinder for espresso, best to go with machines a few hundred to thousands. It's really good! It outdoes many grinders at prices many times of a Preciso. The grind quality, retention, space requirement, etc etc, are very excellent and perfect for home use. If you're looking at $300 range for a grinder, go for this. I personally would choose this over a Vario because it covers all grind size easily and have very good grind quality, comes very close to Mazzer major and Pharos. Here's my more indepth review:

I took two cups off because my grinder had a problem after just 2 weeks. But Baratza CS is taking care of me. Expect it to take a while and grinderless(for espresso) if you don't have back up because it takes at least 1 week to ship from west coast to east coast using their UPS service.

I would easily gives it six cup when it's working perfectly though. The one I had now could be just a lemon

  • GREAT GRINDER

    EricBNC | Fri, 11/11/2011 - 09:08

So far this one does everything well - the best coarse electric grinder available for home use. Less fines than the standard Virtuoso and Maestro Plus even. Oh, and it can grind for espresso - great single doser with very low retention too along with a simple to operate yet very precise adjustment.

  • GREAT GRINDER, GREAT COMPANY

    intrepid510 | Sat, 10/15/2011 - 02:15

I placed my order directly through Baratza and they were a pleasure to work with. I had to talk to them over the phone because on the site they said it was out of stock, but with an email and phone call later my grinder was on it's way.

For the price I think this is the best grinder you can get for the price. It does everything espresso to press and leaves nothing lacking. If you are use to a blade grinder or a cheap burr grinder you will notice the difference immediately when using the machine and when tasting you results.

For a better cleaner cup, get this grinder! Check out my blog for a more detailed post about this grinder in a few days.

  • BARATZA VIRTUOSO PRECISO

    IMAWriter | Thu, 06/30/2011 - 01:19

This is now a companion to my Vario. I call it the Vario Jr. It does espresso grind on par with the Vario, and does an especially great job with the press pot grind. Even less fines than the Vario.
    Highly recommended!

  • PRECISO

    broseph | Tue, 06/28/2011 - 12:43

Very good at fine, medium, and coarse settings. The micro-steps are more than sufficient for dialing in. My one criticism would be that the settings will often slip when you go medium --> fine --> medium or whatever. So if you use, say, setting 18 for a drip, then do an espresso, then try to go back to 18, you might find that 18 is no longer what it once was. So you have to dial-in your drip grind again. Kind of annoying, and makes me suspicious of the claim that this is a do-it-all grinder. Two grinders is still the way to go if you can manage that. Still, at this price, it's a solid value.

  • PERFECT

    jbviau | Wed, 06/22/2011 - 12:55

I don't see how you could beat this for a do-it-all home grinder that turns out high-quality press and drip grinds and *also* is well-suited for espresso (even according to the geeks). I've been experimenting with mine for a week now and love it. Plus, Baratza's customer service is wonderful. I had a minor issue with the button on the micro adjustment arm, and now 3 replacement buttons are on their way to me just in case I might need them. I'll update in the future, as necessary, but in the meantime I'm beyond happy. To the skeptics: moving from 11B to, say, 11D really makes a noticeable difference in terms of espresso flow/extraction. This ability to tweak is more than worth the $100 premium over the plain old Virtuoso (which is nevertheless a good machine).
