Kenya Organic AA Plus Coffee begins with an intense, complex almost savory aroma before transitioning to chocolate, caramel, molasses, hibiscus and tomato flavors. A variety of citrusy winey notes appear with an acidity that is very strong, yet at the same time, sweet. This Kenyan organic shade-grown coffee is a very extraordinary bold coffee.
Kenya Organic AA Plus Coffee Features:
• Produced by Kia-Ora Farms. “Kia-Ora” is a Maori word from New Zealand meaning, “Into the Wild.”
• Growing elevation: Approximately 1600 m above sea level
• Average annual rainfall: 970 mm.
• Environmental awareness: Global environmental issues and the production of high quality produce is core to our business. We realize environmentally-friendly farming techniques are required and encourage the inter-planting of macadamia and coffee as complementary to each other.
• Coffee qualities: Because it takes longer to grow, the shade-grown coffee has a richer flavor. Besides its job as a carbon dioxide filter, the macadamia canopy provides greater bio-diversity and a bird habitat, as macadamia is harvested from the ground without disturbing the trees.
• Harvesting: Coffee is handpicked and rigorously selected beginning in the orchards. Only the choicest coffee cherries are picked and processed, which results in a superior quality coffee.
• Social Responsibility: We at Kia-Ora Farm believe that the most important element of good practice and good governance are the people with whom we work closely on a daily basis. The community that fosters and cares for the orchards are number one, so we’ve instituted various programs that enable us to grow together. We aid in school building and the welfare of the young through various activities. In order to sustain eco-friendly practices benefitting the global community, we must pass on this knowledge and responsibility to our children.

REVIEWS & COMMENTS
REFLECTIVE OF KENYA'S ONGOING DROUGHT
mattabraxas | Thu, 05/24/2012 - 10:50As Kenya suffers a terrible drought, the coffee has also suffered. I still purchase the beans in hopes to taste what I remember from a few years ago, but so far have been disappointed. This particular one is certainly not bad, but it does have a tinny taste to it. I brewed it in French Press, varying the grind, water temp, and proportions of water to grinds, but couldn't get rid of the overly tight, almost metallic taste. It was slight though, and a few days after the bag was opened, it diminished.
If just to support Kenya, I'll still buy their beans, and do recommend giving this one a try. I hope to read other reviews on it with a better experience.
A MILD KENYAN
kingfisha | Sat, 01/07/2012 - 20:41This is a good coffee. It didn't have as much winey characteristics as I would expect from a Kenyan. Definitely worth the price.
