Organic, shade grown Puerto Rican Coffee is from Hacienda Monte Alto. This farm is owned and managed by the Román Family who have grown organic, shade grown highland coffee for four generations. Located in Adjuntas, in the heart of the central mountain range, it is at an elevation of 2800 ft.
With an average yearly temperature of 72 degrees F., Adjuntas is nicknamed "the Switzerland of Puerto Rico." The combination of high altitude, cool weather, rain, soil, and shade cover produces an ideal environment for the beans to ripen very slowly, allowing the flavor to concentrate and develop its favorable rich-tasting characteristics.
The Román family utilizes eco-friendly farming techniques, processes, and equipment to ensure a sustainable operation from cultivation through processing. Four generations of research and experimentation have distinguished this family as a role model for other coffee farms on the island. In addition, since Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the United States, all workers receive at least minimum wage, worker's compensation, and unemployment benefits - just as on the mainland US.

REVIEWS & COMMENTS
SOLID COFFEE
Nuance Coffee and Tea | Wed, 02/16/2011 - 21:20This is a good coffee, with a solid coffee flavor, but not much of anything else going on to make it special enough for the price.
ADVENTURE IN A MUG
Theburton | Sun, 01/30/2011 - 23:14What can I say about this coffee?
To start with when I opened my box of joy I was really impressed by the simple and direct packaging . The bio of the coffee was well written and direct. The ziploc packaging also a plus.
On the coffee overal a mellow pleasant blend personally I prefer somethng a little darker but it was tasty. It also passed my triple cup coffee challenge of can I drink it black, can I drink it with cream and sugar, or use it in a coffee cocktail. If you have read my previous reviews you know I am not a big raver on complexities and cremas. Mostly because I can't tell you if you'll like the coffee based on my taste buds. However this coffee is worth trying and should be embraced by your mug.
PUERTO RICO HACIENDA MONTE ALTO
billlyons | Fri, 12/31/2010 - 22:00This makes a good cup of coffee. A little too expensive for a Puerto Rico coffee and not as good as the Puerto Rico Yauco Selecto AA that I have had before.
