  • HARIO SKERTON

I recently had to use one of these when my electric grinder failed. I was suprised by the grind quality for espresso... Although I found the taste to be slightly too bright, I still came away impressed with the results in my cup. The only real issue I had with this grinder was keeping it still while I cranked the lever. Still, for the price, it can't be beat.

  • GOOD VALUE

    avaserfi | Sat, 02/04/2012 - 09:52

For the money, this is a good grinder. It needs some modifications for use (depending on the goals), and it is slightly cumbersome to use. I still think anyone will be hard pressed to find a better value.

  • PORTABLE

This is a very affordable grinder for getting good coffee in the cup. But the only downside is that you have to crank about 2 minutes or so to get a cup. This could be too cumbersome for some people. Also, this is not very consistent for French Press grind because of the wobble at coarser setting.

  • GREAT LITTLE GRINDER FOR TRAVEL

    kingfisha | Sat, 12/03/2011 - 09:53

This grinder is great for traveling. It's fairly compact and you can get a good grind anyway (much better than a blade). The downside is the shape of the bottom. Being that it is rounded and a relatively small diameter makes it a bit difficult to hold in place while grinding. Since it takes many turns of the handle to grind enough coffee for a couple cups, this stability item is why I give it a 4 out of 5.

  • GOOD FOR STARTING OUT

    brian.samuelson1 | Wed, 11/16/2011 - 16:25

This is a really good grinder for starting out with. I'm pretty new to good coffee thus still use a automatic dripper. This grinder is perfect for that and grinding your own whole beans with this is a pretty awesome experience (the aroma is amazing). The grind is pretty consistent at fine settings but as you get coarser it gets a little jumpy, but it appears it'd be good enough for a french press(albeit a finer french press grind ) up to an aeropress. Not sure about espresso though as I haven't delved into that area yet. The grinding is not as bad as you'd think it'd be and is pretty effortless. Grinding enough coffee at a medium/fine setting for about 4/5 tablespoons takes just about as much time, if not less, for the water to run through the automatic dripper. Overall it does a great job at a great price, and could probably do a great job at a french press setting with one of the mods out there.

  • HAD ONE AND SOLD IT

The press grind in particular is not great pre-mod. Will try the Mini instead.

  • THE MINI MILL IS CHEAPER AND

    broseph | Thu, 09/29/2011 - 22:18

The Mini Mill is cheaper and produces a better grind. Go electric (Baratza) if you can afford it.

  • GLAD TO SEE IT BACK AGAIN!

    EricBNC | Thu, 09/15/2011 - 14:11

I was afraid ROASTe had quit carrying the Skerton. For the money it is a decent hand grinder. there are some modifications available too if the coarse grinding needs tweaking but it is not 100% necessary since the grinder works as shipped. I did see a post showing the top part screwed onto a glass canning jar so if misfortune claims the bottom glass the grinder can be salvaged.
