Ethiopia Organic Shakiso Coffee comes from the birthplace of coffee. Specifically it’s from a small micro-lot consisting of forty 60-Kilo jute bags. In regard to quality, it’s the opposite of small. This coffee is light roasted so the sweetness and fruited notes are emphasized. Compared to other washed Ethiopians, it has more body but its acidity is less bright and citric. It expresses a caramel sweetness with hints of mandarin orange marmalade, honeysuckle aroma, and cinnamon spice.

Ethiopia Organic Shakiso Coffee Features:

• Origin: Southeastern Ethiopia
• Region: Shakiso area, Gujii district, Oromia
• Variety: Local Ethiopian cultivars
• Method of Processing: Wet Process
• Grade: 2
• Coffee Species: Arabica
• Certification: Organic
• Roast Level: Light
• Flavors: Caramel sweetness, mandarin orange, honeysuckle, lemon, sweet spice
• Producer: Moredocofe Sole Enterprises, a unique coffee producer, being a private farm and coffee mill in a land of few large private farms; it’s also a "private cooperative" which organized surrounding farms in a group to better market their coffee. Haile Gebre retired from government ministry, wanting to return to the coffee area where he grew up. The Moredocofe washed coffees are quite different from other wet-process Ethiopias, Sidamo or Yirgacheffe.
• Coffee pricing: Negotiated directly with the farmer, without any confusing export/ import fees. Above Fair Trade minimums, the profit goes to the people who do the work, who are responsible for the great cup quality. Buying coffee in this manner is a simple procedure that allows producers to receive first rate returns for coffee quality, and to reinvest to improve future quality.
• Why not Fair Trade?: Fair Trade is a co-op-only certification which doesn’t allow certification for small independent farms. This coffee is an example of doing the right thing even when Fair Trade doesn’t apply.

Stellar. Delivers on its tasting notes in a powerful way. If you want to be assaulted by honeyed sugarplums, here's your chance.
