Big Truck Espresso Blend is Olympia Coffee Roasting's flagship espresso blend. Constant attention is devoted to Big Truck in efforts to make it the best organic espresso blend you can find. Coffee is a seasonal crop and different producing countries have varied seasons and harvest periods. By only buying smaller lots during prime seasonal conditions, Big Truck's blend is always as fresh as possible.
The cup is full of sweet chocolate, heavy with dense fruit, and possesses a long clean finish.

91 on Coffee Review
"Exciting" espresso for co-taster Byron Holcomb (91) with a shifty, hard-to-read complexity in aroma and small cup. "Fruit, chocolate, salty/sweet" for Byron, "butter, nut, cedar, earth" for Ken (90). Medium-bodied, with a long, rich, though slightly astringent finish. But comes into its own in four parts milk, where the ambiguity smoothes, fattens and becomes all good: in Byron's reading, "milk cocoa with lots of spice notes: ginger, herb, allspice, clove."

  • FORGIVING AND TASTY

With big truck espresso, you can't really make a sink shot unless you're off by far. I've tried many different parameters and they all tasted very delicious. I mostly drink them as straight shots because it's that good. I picked up a hint of tropical fruits resembling Ethiopian Gedeo Worka in their blend. The nuances are all over with a very pleasant finish. Recommended for espresso lovers!

  • TASTY AND EASY TO WORK WITH

    dprblue | Sun, 01/01/2012 - 17:37

I really enjoyed this blend. It's one of the nicest I've pulled in recent months. This works well straight up or with milk based drinks. Well worth trying and I will be ordering it again.

  • A DEFINITE WINNER SO FAR

Great for espresso. The Ethiopian component is more dominant in the cup when brewed for drip, I find--got a nice (though ~flat, as expected) cup out of the Aeropress recently using this blend.

  • BIG TRUCK

    yeahyeah | Sat, 12/17/2011 - 21:56

This is one of the best blends that I have pulled at home in recent months. I tend to group beans into comfort or experimental categories and Big Truck seems to fall somewhere in between. It is a real crowd pleaser while still retaining enough complexity to keep things interesting. I normally prefer normal shots but I liked Big Truck best when pulled tighter than usual. I will definitely be ordering this blend again.

  • CHOCOLATE COOL WHIP

    EricBNC | Fri, 12/02/2011 - 21:11

The box from Olympia Coffee Roasting Company came USPS priority mail in a bag roasted 11/28/2011 - fresh.

The first shot ran a bit fast, but the second shot was pretty close to where I wanted to be. The third shot is a direct hit - battleship sunk, game over, thanks for playing. The light foamy sweetness I crave is right there in my glass - thick crema and bakers chocolate combine for a smooth hard to explain phenomenon - the flavor is heavy and pronounced, but even with a thick viscosity the shot is anything but cloying or syrupy on the tongue - it is like chocolate flavored cool whip for lack of a better set of descriptors.

Not a "difficult" blend - hey, I will buy a puzzle if I want difficult - at dark thirty in the morning I want this in my shot glass. I was already familiar with the Ethiopians in this blend as single origins or as ingredients in my own humble blends - great roasted coffee starts with great green coffee - Olympia gets both parts right.

  • AMAZE BEANS!

    intrepid510 | Sat, 11/26/2011 - 02:48

I was introduced to this roaster as a rotating roaster similar to the experience as one of the other posters, however I never got the chance to try them before they left. I am glad I was able to find them here! The espresso is really good and hits you with some chocolate right in the beginning and then gives you some of those fruit flavors of the Ethiopian that is within this blend. It's a great blend that isn't going to bore the coffee snob or be too off putting for the novice, works well as espresso or drip!

  • BIG TRUCK ESPRESSO

    paul.nibber | Tue, 10/25/2011 - 12:23

The taste of this espresso is dominated by the Yirgacheffe and Gedeo in the batch, which means a lot of floral and berry notes. I thought it was very tasty, although I was unable to get a lot of crema in the cup. Without the mouth feel, it didn't quite feel like espresso. I'll have to give this blend another chance and see if I can coax a thicker shot out of it.

  • EVEN BETTER THAN DESCRIBED.

    homerepairbear | Mon, 10/24/2011 - 22:04

These beans are a treat. The first review written here is spot on. I will add that I usually add 4 parts milk and the shots shine through. Not the typical chocolate bomb. Very agreeable in the morning and evening. I played with dosing a bit and found 18 grams in my VST filter produces an amazingly rich shot not achieved with 19 grams. And the price is right, this is the best value I've found yet.

  • CHOCOLATE & DARK FRUIT

    ryanls | Tue, 06/28/2011 - 15:12

I was recently introduced to Olympia Big Truck espresso as a "guest espresso" at my local coffee shop. One of the tastiest shots I've had in a while. Olympia is very much taking the "3rd wave" seasonal approach, using a relatively simple blend of fresh crop coffees (detailed on their website). However, unlike some other "3rd wave" espressos I've had lately, this is not an overly-bright lemon zing type of espresso. Instead, the fruit note is jammy and blueberry-like. In a cappuccino, there is a nice chocolate sweetness with that subtle berry appearing in the finish.

Excited to see Olympia added to the RoastE stable.
