  • SPECTACLED BEAR COLOMBIAN SUPREMO

    lebohl | Tue, 10/04/2011 - 07:06

This was our first experience with Roaste.com and I have to admit, we were extremely pleased. We absolutely loved Spectacled Bear and drank through it faster than usual. If I get too involved with paperwork, my coffee often cools down and the flavor changes or tends to get a little bitter tasting. Not so with spectacled bear - it held its flavor. Can't wait to try other varieties!

  • SOLID, BUT LIGHTER COLOMBIAN COFFEE

    Noone | Wed, 09/28/2011 - 17:31

A very smooth, medium to medium-light Colombian roast. I do prefer mine a bit bolder and darker. However, like other offerings from Mahogany Roasters, this was very smooth, with no bitterness even after cooling. Aromas were nice, but not spectacular. I may not have gotten the coffee/water ratio exactly correct, but this is still a solid effort from Mahogany.

  • I'LL ADMIT THAT I CHOSE THIS

    shellei | Mon, 08/01/2011 - 08:06

I'll admit that I chose this for the name. Also that I don't drink coffee as if it were wine, so I didn't taste chocolate or citrus or anything not coffee. But it smelled wonderful and ground evenly; is dark enough to satisfy me. It arrived on the 20th and the bags were all labeled as being roasted on the 18th, I like that a great deal.

  • SPECTACLED BEAR COLOMBIAN

This was a good colombian coffee but not one of my favorites coffee selections from Mahogany Roasters. Would have preferred it to be a little darker roasted.

  • REVIEW OF MAHOGANY ROASTERS SPECTACLED BEAR COLUMBIAN SUPREMO

    ancienttraditionalfish | Thu, 09/16/2010 - 19:50

    Mahogany Bear Columbian
Visual beans were uniform with slightest tearing of oil, but not overly so. The aroma upon grinding was good with a hint of earthy tang. In a white porcelain cup the colour was brown with a slight hint of amber.

Auto drip: The coffee started with Citrus tones with some tang. The body was medium. Adding half & half suppresses some of the body but not dramatically so.

Espresso shot had very pleasant earthy tones with a slight bittersweet after taste with good creme and a better body than auto drip.

Press Pot: The color upon the water pouring was a good brown purple. The crust broke with a nice looking foam. A slurp brought a good aroma. The body was on the slightly heavy side of medium (better body than most columbians). Sugar and half & half brought out some of the natural sweetness that seems to be a bit shy, and emphasizes the cocoa tones with just a hint of tang. The body held up to the half&half. The predominate aftertaste is of the earthy tang that the aroma of the grinding promised.

  • MAHOGANY ROASTERS SPECTACLED BEAR COLUMBIAN SUPREMO - YES!

    Lisa | Tue, 08/10/2010 - 13:37

The coffee is a real delight. Everything from the strong smell (wish I could figure out a way to turn that into a perfume!) to the nice smooth flavor. I gave some of it to my grandmother. She is not a big fan of Colombian – she says she gets an upset stomach when drinking it. She made a pot of this and was happily surprised. She enjoyed the smoothness and the slight nutty aftertaste. She says this coffee has raised her opinion of Colombian. This goes on the list of coffees to order again!

  • A SMOOTH, BALANCED, MEDIUM ROAST COLOMBIAN

    EricBNC | Mon, 08/09/2010 - 23:09

Mahogany Roasters fills their bags by the pound - I like that better than the 12oz most vendors pack and then call it a day. The valve bag shipped nice and the date says 8/6 - three days ago. Fresh beans, decent packaging, a full pound at a time, and a fair price - so far, so good.

Now to try the coffee. The roasted beans have a nice roasted nut smell in the bag and while brewing. The first sip presents medium acidity, medium body, and a pleasing roast nut aftertaste. This is a very balanced cup of coffee. As it cools the balance is the story - no chocolate bomb, no fruit basket - just a smooth, rich cup of Colombian coffee.

I agree 100% with the roaster's accurate description of this coffee:

"...excellent, smooth coffee with a body and presence ... Good body and a well-rounded flavor... "
