Klatch Mocha Java Blend, the world's oldest and most well known coffee blend, is richly balanced in the cup, expressing delicate fruit and floral top-notes with deeper hints of earth and brandy-toned chocolate and aromatic wood.

This update of the ancient Mocha-Java blend combines a genuine Java from the government estates of East Java with two different Ethiopia "natural" or dried-in-the-fruit coffees. The Ethiopian beans represent variations on the original blend’s Yemen Mocha component: one comes from Ethiopia’s Harrar region and the other from the Amaro region of southwestern Ethiopia.

  • WOULD BUY AGAIN

    hoonchul | Fri, 12/09/2011 - 22:34

Overall I'm very satisfied. Shipped out the same day it was roasted! Too bad it took 4 days for me to receive it. It was my first time ordering fresh roasted beans and the smell when I opened the bag was amazing!! Espresso from the bean was smooth, bit chocolaty, not too bitter and I really enjoyed the flavor. However, it was bit too mild for me when making cappuccino.

  • OUTSTANDING

A fine example of a mocha java--with a Yemen that really shined. As the beans rested, the deeper notes of the Java came to the fore. The aroma upon opening the bag was incredible. Really enjoyable coffee!

  • SATISFIED

I'm not as excited about this coffee as I thought I would be, but I'm satisfied. It's not one I think I'll be buying again in the near future, but I think it's just a personal taste issue. I might start avoiding coffees with "floral" in the description.
    Not bad, but not great.

  • KLATCH MOCHA JAVA BLEND

    casco | Tue, 10/04/2011 - 21:53

This was my first shipment of coffee from Klatch. My all time favorite coffee is Peet's Arabian Mocha Java so I was anxious to run Klatch's Mocha Java Blend through my electric drip coffee maker after a proper grind with the Rocky. I have to say that, for my taste, the floral notes were too much and the coffee was almost astringent and too winey. Since the coffee had been recently roasted, I hoped that the taste would improve as the coffee hit its peak age of approx 2 weeks from roasting-no such luck.

On the positive side, shipment was FAST and all Klatch coffee arrived as ordered.

  • KLATCH MOCHA JAVA REVIEW

    kinzieb | Sat, 10/01/2011 - 11:06

Whole bean, roasted 8/9 and arrived on 8/11. Roast was medium, with a hint going towards dark. Aroma in bag fantastic, chocolate and cherry. Flavor is similar, with chocolate, fruity cherry, and a hint of something almost like a Jerez brandy floating in the background. Maybe that was put in my head by the mention of brandy in the description on the bag, but it was noticeable to me. Great balance - really has that balance you can normally only get through blending, hitting what is quintessentially the typical cup of really good coffee.

  • NICE, SWEET TASTE

    vghozlan | Sat, 09/17/2011 - 12:53

I just received this coffee and hastened to make a latte. It was smooth, sweet but a little milder than I like but still a good taste. I plan on doubling the grinds to seem if that gives me a bolder cup.

  • REALLY ENJOYABLE

    shaffer22 | Sun, 12/12/2010 - 01:53

What a nice earthy, rich, and complex blend from Klatch. I enjoyed the cozy warmth that this selection provided, and the subtly chocolate and spice finish was exceptional. I will certainly be purchasing this again soon.

  • KLATCH MOCHA JAVA BLEND

    ripantuck | Thu, 07/22/2010 - 10:36

This is a classic Mocha Java blend and they use very high quality beans. It is relatively low in acid and it has the classic Mocha Java flavor of chocolate with an earthy aftertaste. The coffee is a bit sweet and requires less added sweetener than most. If you like the flavor profile of Mocha Java, it would probably be a 5. I personally, prefer more of a cherry, berry aftertaste and less of the earthy Java flavor.

The coffee is very smooth and would rate a 5 based on quality. It does not deteriorate at least a month after opening. Also, it is not sensitive to brewing temperature or conditions. Very forgiving.

Important Disclaimer! I use the Aeropress exclusively to brew a strong, Espresso-like brew and almost always add steamed, foamed milk for a cappuccino-like drink. Coffee may act and taste differently using a modern espresso machine.

  • FRUITIER THAN EXPECTED

    Steve Rhinehart | Wed, 07/21/2010 - 19:04

I bought this with iced coffee in mind, knowing that I would be making a batch or two of cold brew, in addition to brewing hot.
I really enjoyed the blend as drip, and it surprised me how much fruit came through. I'm used to a local MJ blend though, so I was expecting differences.
In cold brew, it didn't stand up very well. I cold brew in my press pot, and usually steep for 12 hours. I should have expected the blend to need a bit more steeping time, but my results were watery and thin. The last cold brew I tried steeped for 18 hours, and, while it gained a little more body, it wasn't up to snuff for me.
Still, in hot extractions, Klatch's Mocha Java is wonderful, and I highly recommend it.

  • EARTH TO KLATCH

    J_Premium | Thu, 05/06/2010 - 09:43

Solid Blend used for French Press.
I definitely enjoyed the cup which displayed the stated earthy and brandy tones.

I've yet to taste a Klatch offering I didn't enjoy.
    Go for it!
