  • GOOD COFFEE!

    Son Ton | Mon, 06/25/2012 - 09:37

The coffee was roasted right before shipping and shipped to me really fast as promised (I received it three days post roast). Right now, I'm enjoying shots from it. five days after roasting and it is already good and I'm expecting it to get better as it have more rest. Give this coffee some rest before you try to make coffee with it, it is worth it. For more detail, please look for my blog post detailing my experience with this coffee. Thanks!

  • NOT A BAD COFFEE...

    ETPhHm | Mon, 06/18/2012 - 15:34

I think I would probably give a 3-1/2 rating, but half cups not allowed here. Here's why I am rating this lower than the average user rating of 4-1/2 cups:

We've purchased coffees from all over the world; I wouldn’t necessarily call ourselves coffee connoisseurs, but we like a good strong cup of coffee that’s bold, yet smooth with little or no acidic taste, and no lingering bitter after taste. We prefer a coffee that allows one to make it stronger by using more of the grind in the brew without causing it to become bitter or developing undesirable aftertastes. Not all coffees can achieve this. And, this tells you that what delights our pallet may not fit the pallet of some, but probably fits in with most pallets.

We were at a restaurant with another couple a while back and after dinner, we all had coffee. We kept talking and drinking coffee, and everyone at the table noticed the coffee was quite different and quite good. The waitress kept coming by and filling our cups and we just were practically guzzling the stuff… it was almost embarrassing. After about an hour and a half of after dinner conversation, I think we had probably consumed about 6 or 7 cups of coffee each, which is way, way more than all of us usually drink; it’s just that the coffee they were serving had such a delightful taste and we just couldn’t get enough it seemed. You would think they had laced it with a drug of some kind because all of us had an instant addiction. So we asked the waitress what the coffee was and she said, “Well, we use a cold brewed coffee by Douwe Egberts.” We went home and I immediately ordered some on-line. When it came, we did not have a cold brew coffee maker or processor, so we brewed the coffee in a french press. It was about 90% as good as what we drank in the restaurant. Compared to other world coffees we have drank from Ethiopia, Hawaii, different parts of Africa, Jamaica, and quite a few from storefront coffee retailers (you know… SB, etc.), my wife and I would easily rate the Egberts Bold Intense or Excellent Aroma roasts easily as the best tasting coffee we’ve ever had. Now if you’ve had these yourself and are not that impressed, you probably have a different set of likes for your ideal coffee.

Which brings me to the Klatch Belle Espresso Coffee that I am reviewing here. It’s not a bad coffee, but is it as good as the Egberts? For our taste preferences, we prefer the Egberts. I would give the Egberts a 4-1/2 cup rating and the Klatch a 3-1/2 rating. The Klatch is not quite as smooth, and you can’t get it quite as strong without introducing undesirable aftertastes or bitterness.

Our quest continues for that perfect 5 cup coffee…

  • GREAT BEANS!

    stormhagen | Tue, 06/05/2012 - 19:34

Great beans! Coming from Vivace Vita these beans are extremely forgiving and taste great. Nice smooth chocolatey flavor with none of the "musty" flavor sometimes found in Vita (especially if your temp was off!). Accidentally pulled it at 197 the other day (still half asleep) and the results surprised me, slight sourness but still very drinkable!

  • AMAZING, INCREDIBLE

    kc2dpt | Wed, 03/28/2012 - 15:19

Exactly what I'm looking for in an espresso. Very strong chocolate flavor accompanied by something else, making it exciting. It coats the inside of the mouth pleasantly and lingers for a long time afterwards. So very enjoyable. Beautiful spotting in the crema. I even tasted a bean straight and it was great. Makes me want to drink more than I aught.

At first I was thinking there was going to be a shipping problem. The tracking date said 3-21 and the beans didn't arrive till 3-28, whjch would make the beans already a week old! But the bag says it was roasted on 3-26 so I'm guessing they printed up the shipping label as soon as they received the order and then held it until the beans were roasted. The crema says they are very fresh.

  • BELLE BELLE FROM KLATCH!

    portman.steve | Wed, 03/07/2012 - 21:35

Deep aroma from the expresso machine is followed by a rich coffee essence of flavor that persists to the end. Smooth.

  • SOLID

    avaserfi | Tue, 01/31/2012 - 12:11

Sweet, chocolaty and slightly acidic (fruitiness). Well balanced, an enjoyable shot. A solid blend that I would recommend.

  • WOW!

    Aaron McCarty | Wed, 01/18/2012 - 19:20

Tried this for the first time earlier this month. Order placed on 1/3/2012, had my espresso by 1/8/2012 which was freshly roasted on 1/4/2012. Tastes amazingly creamy and bold, with caramel undertones. HIGHLY recommend!

  • GOOD ALL-AROUND, BUT NOT THAT EXCITING

    rlsimon1 | Wed, 01/11/2012 - 01:01

Flavors and texture are good, but wasn't left excited yearning for another right away. In my search to bring the excitement I adjusted temperatures and dosing quantities.

  • NICE BOLD FLAVOR WITH TINY

    hoonchul | Sat, 12/24/2011 - 21:15

Nice bold flavor with tiny bit of fruit and I get great crema. One of my favorite from Klatch.

  • KLATCH BELLE ESPRESSO COFFEE

    jwfetherolf | Tue, 12/20/2011 - 11:54

I must have confused this with another blend as I was expecting rasberry, carmel or something flavored. However, this was a robust coffee which I am enjoying immensely. I like stronger brews and this met those expectations!

  • MY FAVORITE SO FAR

    jimh70458 | Wed, 12/14/2011 - 13:08

I have purchased the Bonsai Blend, Vivace Espresso Dolce Coffee, and Klatch Belle Espresso. They all make a great cup of espresso, withthis being my favorite so far.

  • A LITTLE TOO BITTER ON THE FINISH

    meaganross | Wed, 11/30/2011 - 14:53

This is a good espresso, but not the best I've had. It doesn't drink smoothly, and the end is uncomfortably bitter. It does however produce a really beautiful crema.

  • SMOOTH AS SILK

    Coffee Drinker | Thu, 11/24/2011 - 14:29

A coffee that my husband and I both enjoy - despite our opposing coffee preferences! It has a smooth bitter-free flavor that has me racing back for another cup. The flavor was this great and we only used a drip coffee maker.

  • VERY GOOD COFFEE

    reiter37 | Thu, 11/24/2011 - 00:29

  • BELLE

    yeahyeah | Wed, 11/23/2011 - 21:05

Decent comfort blend. Not an all-time favorite but good enough to order again in the future. I liked shots of Belle better with milk than by themselves, and it made a decent cup of drip as well.

    12345
  • PERFECT!

    samuellaw178 | Tue, 11/22/2011 - 17:32

This blend is very similarly-styled to the Metropolis Redline that I tasted. Sweet chocolate laden with slight hint of fruitiness(brightness). Very balanced overall. Its body is excellent and the aftertaste is a pleasant one. Definitely try this if you prefer chocolate shots with some fruitiness that is not overpowering.
I normally pull this into singles and doubles espresso shots and they all tasted very good even jsut after 3 days rest.
At the same time, I also bought Vivace's Dolce. I much prefer Belle because Dolce has some very dominant earthiness that was absent in the previous coffee that I was drinking.

  • SMOOTH COFFEE

    echien | Sat, 11/12/2011 - 20:41

I purchased Klatch Belle Espresso Coffee - 12 oz. and Vivace Espresso Dolce Coffee - 1 lb. at the same time. I definitely preferred the Klatch to the Vivace Coffee. The Klatch was a mild roast and rather smooth coffee. I don't usually drink coffee black but I liked this one enough to drink it without any additional milk/creamers.

  • BELLE

    bdcline | Mon, 11/07/2011 - 22:12

Roast was a bit darker than I expected. Worked great for macchiatos and cappuccinos, but I could never quite get the Belle to sing on my HX machine. My shots came out a bit ashy on the finish, so next time I will need to experiment more with brew temp.

  • REALLY GOOD ESPRESSO!

    intrepid510 | Sat, 11/05/2011 - 14:25

I have had this for a few days now and can say this is a really good espresso. One of the major pluses to this blend is it seems to be pretty forgiving of equipment, it does well as a straight shot or in diary. It is a nice chocolate and caramel espresso, and should be a crowd pleaser. My only complaint is that it doesn't make a good cup of drip in my opinion, however it is suppose to be espresso, thus the 4 stars.

  • BELLE ESPRESSO IS BEAUTIFUL!

    bekeld | Wed, 10/12/2011 - 10:58

This coffee is my first venture into the world of espresso. I had never realized just how nuanced coffee flavors are before La Belle. I noticed a chocolaty tone and a full, smooth mouth feel with very little bitterness.

  • GOOD FOR BOTH THE ESPRESSO MAKER AND THE ELECTRIC DRIP MAKER

    casco | Tue, 10/04/2011 - 21:57

The Belle Espresso makes a real nice, balanced espresso with an excellent layer of crema. I find I use this coffee just as frequently in the electric drip maker and it is NOT overly strong/dark like some coffees marketed as "espresso coffee". Definately on the re-order list.

  • ANOTHER CUP PLEASE!

    cbronola | Tue, 10/04/2011 - 12:31

This coffee is decadent, divine, and delicious. I admit I like creamer in my coffee but it isn't necessary with these beans! This is a new favorite of mine!

  • EXCELLENT ESPRESSO AS OTHERS

    Joe Robertson | Thu, 09/15/2011 - 20:16

Excellent espresso as others have already said. Wish my espresso machine hadn't kicked the bucket the next day! I'll definitely be ordering more and possibly subscribing.

  • CONSISTENTLY GOOD

    SNCollin | Wed, 09/14/2011 - 16:35

Wasn't sure what to expect from this one but the reviews indicated it is best brewed as an espresso and the reviews are spot on. Reminiscent of Northern Italian blend with hints of chocolate and zero bitterness. Very good espresso, and very consistent. I'm the only one in my household who drinks coffee and the beans hold their flavor quite well. Not a 5, but would give it 4-1/2 if I could. Recommended.

  • BELLE ESPRESSO

    paul.nibber | Thu, 09/08/2011 - 02:39

I really like this espresso. This is something I've had a few times over in California and it was the first time I'd tasted "sweet" espresso. Since then, I've had a chance to taste a few other blends, but this still resonates with me. I'll be ordering it again sometime soon.

  • KLATCH BELLE ESPRESSO COFFEE

    bruk111 | Tue, 09/06/2011 - 15:48

Of the three top rated coffees I recently bought on this site, this is my second favorite, but not by much. I really like the dark rich flavor. Works great in lattes that I usually have but also makes a great straight espresso. I like that even though its a slightly darker roast, it still has a nice sweetness to it. Great cup, would definitely recommend it.

  • BELLE ESPRESSO

    dpablo19 | Mon, 09/05/2011 - 15:26

This is my favorite Northern Italian style espresso. It achieves perfect balance between sweet caramel and bitter chocolate. There is very mild acidity that lingers throughout the shot, but it works. I tasted cherry and some woody notes. If this is Klatch's house espresso, I wish I lived in central California.

    Karrde | Tue, 09/20/2011 - 14:24

This is a pretty good blend, I don't think it's as good as the other two Klatch blends I've had though. (COSTA RICA CERRO PALDO COFFEE and KLATCH WORLD'S BEST EXPRESSO).

  • A NICE CHOCOLATE ESPRESSO

    halowords | Tue, 08/09/2011 - 11:29

I got Klatch Belle as part of a larger order. The service was nice. Any problems with the beans were pretty much due to my learning curve with espresso. I am still learning, hence MY espresso was not always great. They did also work well in French Press and drip. The shots I pulled well were nice, chocolatey, almost creamy (due to the crema), a bit of spice and misc. flavors that are hard to describe. Overall, it was a nice espresso and worked very well despite my unrefined barista skills. That says something, and I'd like to try it again especially once my technique is up to par with the quality of the coffee.

    12345
  • VERY GOOD COFFEE

    chrisbruin | Mon, 08/08/2011 - 19:43

I make espresso 2 doubles everyday...once in the morning and a double shot latte in the evening. I liked the Belle a lot although I thought it might be roasted a bit darker than my general tastes. It tasted best brewed at lower temps ....anything above 200 and you could really taste the darker unpleasant parts of the roasts. This was great in milk drinks as the coffee cut through the milk nicely.

    Doug Pickett | Tue, 07/19/2011 - 16:52

  • 5 STAR ESPRESSO!

    jill24295 | Fri, 07/01/2011 - 14:54

I have a white chocolate mocha most every morning for breakfast. It is one of my few real indulgences as I'm not a big pastry, doughnut, ice cream, cake, pie, etc. type of person. I'd much rather have this than most everything else for breakfast, so I want my coffee to be the best I can afford. This espresso was delicious! I love how quickly everything shipped too. Thank you!

I'm loving this so far. Think I might even prefer it over Vivace's Dolce as a straight shot. Great dry aroma. I'm going to try this as a brewed coffee also and report back. For now, two thumbs way up. Thanks to ROASTe for the free sample!

  • GOOD ESPRESSO FOR A BEGINNER

    sscalese | Tue, 06/28/2011 - 13:06

I'm a home espresso newbie, so I don't have a lot to compare this too. However, I'm really enjoying the espresso shots I've pulled with these beans so far. Once I got my grinder properly dialed in, the shots were fairly tasty alone. However, I'm really enjoying them in milk-based drinks. I definitely will be purchasing this and other Klatch coffees again!

    12345
  • GOOD STUFF

    FZ1 | Mon, 06/13/2011 - 19:48

Good stuff - produces a unique and ultra smooth espresso IMO. While a great espresso, I find I enjoy more as a second/third/mid-day espresso more than the first. If I'm only having one drink for the morning - I'd be more inclined to pick a blend that may not be as balanced, but has more of a kick in the face profile to get me going.

    12345
  • THEY SHOULD ALL BE THIS EASY TO WORK WITH.

    EricBNC | Sat, 05/28/2011 - 11:55

Klatch may be on the other side of the continent but their coffee gets here extremely fast and usually is better if I am willing to wait a couple days before starting in - coffee that is too fresh... what a good problem to have!

Dialing in is simple with even the first calibration shots pulling close enough to be enjoyable but not quite as flavorful as it gets after a bit of tinkering. Once I hit the spot where the chocolate dominates trough the middle and deliciously long finish no further adjustment was required.

The only problem I had concerned the bag - it was empty far too soon. Thanks Klatch - this one is wonderful!

    12345
  • I DIDN'T WANT TO LOVE YOU

    ailevin | Wed, 05/25/2011 - 14:09

Yes I read your good reviews here and your high score at www.coffeereview.com, but I was just fooling around, not looking for a long term relationship.

Belle Espresso is a darker roast than I am used to using, and it had that darker look and smell coming out of the grinder. However, once I got it dialed in, I was surprised by the range of flavors, and also surprised by how easy it was to pull decent shots under different conditions of dose and grind. This coffee has a nice chocolaty base, but also hints of spice and fruity high notes that are not at all acidic or citrus (most people seem to call it cherry). I like the buttery mouthfeel of this coffee, it reminds me of Sulawesi. I had best results at medium dose (14-15g) and medium to low temperature (I use an E61 HX machine so no point being too specific on temp). At higher temps I lost some of the fruit flavors and some of the spice was replaced by a harsher edge. OTH, this is not a finicky espresso at all.

    Highly recommended!

  • GOOD COFFEE, BUT NOTHING SUPER AMAZING

    Doug | Sun, 04/10/2011 - 13:00

This espresso was easy to pull, with a wide range of acceptable settings. The taste was pleasing with lot of cherry aromas initially. A great "base" espresso that is reasonably priced, but I like harder to work with beans that produce better flavor when pulled correctly (like Vivace).

Perfect espresso. Rich crema, low acid, tastes full of caramel and chocolate. And from San Dimas of all places!
If you are a fan of Blue Bottle Coffee as I am (especially 17ft Ceiling and Hayes ) you will love Klatch Belle Espresso. I would rate it 5 if it were organic.
