El Salvador Orange Bourbon is a quintessential bourbon coffee. A true connoisseur’s choice, this coffee is the most admired of the traditional varieties arabica grown in Latin America. Pure, finely articulated coffee with notes of sweet floral, orange citrus, and mild fruit. A juicy coffee, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of body.

The Orange Bourbon is a particularly meticulously picked and process 100% Bourbon coffee developed at Finca El Molino, one of El Salvador's finest and most innovative coffee farms. Mike Perry, Green Coffee Buyer and Liz Lozano, Barista Trainer Associate source this direct trade coffee in early 2011 and were truly impressed by Jose Antonio and his staff. Truly genuine and friendly people with a passion for quality coffee.

Citrus flavors complement this mild coffee. You cannot go wrong with Klatch.

I am really enjoying this coffee since getting it a few days ago. So far I have really liked this best as a drip coffee, found that it has nice bright orange taste, but not over whelming like some Ethiopian coffees can be. I have found that the mouthfeel is a little lacking in both drop and espresso. As espresso the orange flavor is very pronounced, but in a orange candy sort of way, not sure if the name is influencing my taste or not but it is good! Oh and I have not had any bitters with it.

  • VERY GOOD, BUT PREPARE WITH CARE

I'm not sure if I got this right. The coffee is delicious, I'm drinking some now - full mouthfeel, a nice mild sweetness and some bright orange citrus as well, but I've gotten more bitterness than I'm used to. I'm pretty sure it's something I'm doing - I don't mind bitter flavors generally, this was a little more than I wanted. My conclusion, based on the current batch (second week of drinking) and trying a few different things, is that the water temp should be on the low side. I don't measure but I let the kettle sit for longer than usual and it is better than last time. The many coffees I've had from Katch, over years, have been reliably great and they have such a huge selection that if you really don't like bitter, you might chose something else - there is still some bitter (rind from the orange...) but very good.

One more thing, I always drink drip from a thermos - usually that works well for me, coffee tends to sweeten as the morning goes on (and is usually more astringent and ready to stop by noon) but it may be that this one doesn't sit well once brewed - I tried a sip fresh this morning and if I remember, very little bitter.

  • BEST COFFEE FROM MY FIRST BATCH OF ORDERS

    iamericstephens | Sat, 10/08/2011 - 07:46

I'm new to Roaste.com and recently ordered three coffees to start with. I was mostly disappointed, but this El Salvador Orange Bourbon was the best of the three. I doubt I'll ever buy the other two again, but I'll keep this one in mind after I've done some exploration of other coffees. Definitely worth a taste!

Brewed as pour-over coffee. Very pleasantly surprised by this one. Even among great coffees from a great roaster, this one stood out for me. IMO, you can't beat the flavor for the price. Very balanced coffee with nice fruit notes and good body.

  • WORTH A RAVE

The best coffee I've had so far this year. If you like Central American beans, I seriously doubt you'll be disappointed. Simply delicious. The tasting notes are accurate. I'd only add that I get a whiff of light peach sometimes as it cools. Works well iced.

Makes a nice cup. Hints of citrus but not overpowering.
