Costa Rica La Minita Coffee is rich, sweetly bright and perfectly balanced throughout the profile. It exhibits a full body, is lightly syrupy, with dusk flower notes and continued cherry, nut and molasses notes.
Costa Rica La Minita *ROASTS ON MONDAY ONLY*
La Minita means "the small mine." The local legend tells that pre-Colombian Indians came to look for gold on the land that is now the farm. Though La Minite coffee is considered a Tarrazu coffee, the farm’s geography and microclimate produce a coffee that is more balanced than other Tarrazu coffees.
For many years, Tarrazu coffee has been recognized as one of the world’s great coffees. La Minita workers have taken the time, trouble and expense to prepare a coffee from these superior beans that no other can match. A special crew of pickers are under instructions to pick only the ripest of beans. Once at the mill, further handling is done with the same extreme care. Beans are specially hand-sorted to remove any remaining defects. A top sorter can clean up to 50 lbs. in one day.
Only 23% of the beans actually end up as La Minita Tarrazu, for a yearly production of 1700 bags of the world famous coffee. All of the export and distribution of this coffee is directly handled by the Hacienda La Minita owner.

unagi1 | Wed, 09/21/2011 - 22:26You get the same citrus notes and bright acidity typical for the Terrazu region, but this one has more chocolate mouthfeel and the initial citrus gives way a lot nicer than in something like the Cerro Paldo. It might not be as highly rated, but it's more balanced in its flavor profile, which is why I will be getting more as soon as it runs out!

salbal81 | Tue, 07/26/2011 - 10:28we had just been to costa rica and fell in love with the coffee there. so i ordered a couple from roaste to try. this was not a good choice. it has a lot going on in it, but the overwhelming taste is a sweet, bright almost bitterness. if you like those things, this is the coffee for you.

broseph | Thu, 05/26/2011 - 17:19I prefer Minita's special-prep lots (called Minita del Sol and carried this past year by Terroir/George Howell and Batdorf & Bronson), which has more pleasing fruit imo. This one here is caramelly and well-balanced, a real crowd pleaser but it lacks wow factor.
