Costa Rica Cerro Paldo Features:

Just 45 minutes to the South of San Jose lies Cerro Paldo in the district of Aserri, Tarbaca, a micro-region of the popular coffee region of Tarrazu. Cerro Paldo is owned by Ronald Monge Valverde, the third generation in a family of coffee producers. His grandfather, Adam Monge Castro, bought two hectares of land more than 60 years ago and began the family legacy. Ronald's father, Juan Rafael Monge Picado inherited the farm and has passed it on to his son. Currently 10 people live on the farm and are devoted to producing high quality coffee.

The excellence required to process mature fruit has been the key to obtaining a high quality cup. Their sustainable production system uses vegetable covers and organic matter, instead of agrochemicals. The Monge Valverde family is a member of the Asociacion Agropecuaria de Productores de Acosta y Aserri.

ASOPROAAA is a producer association established three years ago to work together with the objective of adding value to their products by establishing strict quality standards on coffee production and processing. The initial investment to build a mill was challenging and demanded a lot of hard work but all the efforts paid off when they won first place with Cerro Paldo at the 2007 Costa Rica Cup of Excellence.

  • SURPRISING SINGLE ORIGIN

    jlarue | Sat, 11/26/2011 - 07:51

A very good cup, well balanced cup, no one characteristic takes over. Remided me of a top quality blend. I expected indivual notes to be more proninced in a single origin. Very easy drinking.

  • GREAT, IF YOU APPRECIATE LAYERS OF FLAVOR

    Coffee Drinker | Thu, 11/24/2011 - 13:12

I gave it a 4 cup rating. My husband gives it a 2 cup rating because he's a traditional French Roast coffee lover - doesn't like flavored coffees. I like my coffee fully decorated, so it was fine for me.

  • SMOOTH

    bdcline | Sun, 11/13/2011 - 10:11

Prepared pour-over style and via a vac pot. Delicate floral notes for the first couple of days, with deeper chocolate tones predominating as the beans rest.

  • EXCELLENT COFFEE WITH GREAT BALLANCE

    barrettbrock | Tue, 09/20/2011 - 09:34

I ordered this coffee with along with Klatch Ethiopian coffee and this was by far my favorite of the two (if not one of my all time favorites). This coffee had an excellent balance with absolutely no bitterness at the end. This coffee also has an inherent sweetness to it and I found that I used less sugar when drinking.

  • GREAT BALANCE AND COMPLEX

    unagi1 | Tue, 08/16/2011 - 15:17

Lots of citrus notes and a slight sweetness, followed by chocolate overtones. A really complex brew and a joy to taste, although not my favorite flavor profile I can still appreciate the balance this single region has to offer.

  • COSTA RICA CERRO PALDO COFFEE

    Karrde | Fri, 07/15/2011 - 22:57

This blend is one of my favorites. The chocolate flavor inherent in the beans really make it a welcome complement in a mocha or latte, probably the best I've found so far for such a purpose.

  • LOVELY AND FULL

The taste of this coffee is truly lovely. Even the next day as an iced coffee it has the same mellowness and strength.

  • FULL FLAVORED SINGLE ORIGIN

    james.neu1 | Wed, 06/29/2011 - 17:28

Balanced, full flavored coffee. Nice high notes, some floral overtones. Good bass notes, not too heavy, but full-bodied. You don't see this kind of balance in a single origin very often. Used for drip, highly recommended.

  • COSTA RICA CERRO PALDO

    billlyons | Wed, 01/05/2011 - 23:52

I enjoyed this coffee but like the Costa Rica La Minita from Klatch much better. Spend the extra few bucks and go for the La Minita, you won't be disappointed.

  • VERY NICE

    christine | Tue, 07/06/2010 - 03:57

I'm still very new to specialty coffee, but I do know what I like. This was very enjoyable as drip (Technivorm w/ swissgold filter). My first pot was way too bright, so I ground finer and found a very nicely balanced cup. Just as the description from the roaster -- fruit-like sweetness, plus a bit of chocolatey sweetness. Not too sweet though, and a rich body too. Very nice.
