Vietnamese 11 oz. Phin Filter Coffee Maker similar to the 7 oz. Phin filter, is a stainless steel, 4-part drip brewer popular throughout SE Asia. It is suitable for hot or iced coffee brewing. (For iced brewing, drip brew over cracked ice. See directions.) This 11 oz size is a full mug-sized brewer, which is very hard to find in Asia. Of the highest quality, these Phins are imported from the same manufacturer as the 7 ounce and 8 ounce. Very easy to use, directions are included. This version of the Phin features a gravity insert in the center to hold the grounds in place. Most customers prefer it to the Chinese-style screw-down filter, on which it’s harder to control the flow.

4 pieces: Cup spanner, chamber, filter insert and cap
Comes in box with pictorial directions:

  • SIMPLE AND EASY

I like to use these to make traditional Vietnamese iced coffee. I tend to use a dark roast with it so the coffee flavor comes out through the condensed milk. Easy to use as I set it on top of a cup with condensed milk already in it and then after it finishes brewing, pour the coffee/milk mixture over ice.

  • REGARDS TO NEGATIVE REVIEW ABOVE

In defense of the 11 ounce Phin filter, we can say this: We have reviewed many manufacturers for this product and all have a lesser degree of finish. Fine hard INOX stainless steel will always have some sharp edges until used. This product takes over 400 machining steps to make - over 300 holes to drill alone. It would drive the product cost up $10 each to polish every hole.

All our filters offered on Roaste clearly state they are the "gravity" insert type, preferred by 90% of users. Most restaurants using screw-downs snap the cam off after awhile because it drives them crazy and doesn't brew right without adjustments as it brews. The gravity insert is supposed to provide a barrier between the coffee and water, and will not float unless you pour the water in too fast and it gets under the insert. Pour it in very slowly and this will not happen.

People who are used to the screw-down often struggle with the gravity for a bit, but almost always wind up preferring it. It is okay when some grains of coffee "escape" and float above the insert, it does not affect brewing. Yes, the 11-ounce has more clearance between the insert and the chamber walls, so you get more floaters, but it doesn't affect the brewing. We've sold 3,000 of these to happy people, and only received 3 complaints.. all from people used to the other kind. There is nothing "cheap" about them, they are the highest grade heavy stainless steel and will last a lifetime.

If you really are not happy with them, we have a 100% satisfaction guarantee with all our products, so make a return, please. But try them for a bit and you may decide you do actually like them.

  • 11OZ PHIN COFFEE - POOR DESIGN, POOR QUALITY, VERY POOR...

    Le van Tien | Tue, 10/25/2011 - 19:02

After I brought (QTY=8 ) of 11oz Coffee Maker, I am very disappointed with following seasons:
    1) Quality of Product very poor in general.
    2) Lid and filter is very sharp edge. It's easy to cut your finger when you handle it especially clean it up.
    3) The small holes and on the body chamber, filter as well as the bottom tray are not consisted in diameter,
pattern, etc. again the holes also show sharp edges. It's easy cut your finger while clean it...
    4) The filter did not fit correctly to the main chamber or lock into the chamber. I expected this filter should be
screw-in or lock to the main chamber assembly so the ground coffee could be intact between bottom chamber and the
filter so that when pour the hot water to it the filter, the ground coffee won't float up by the force of hot water... and ground coffee has room to expand.... Very Poor Design.....
    5) It's look very "Cheap" Product.... This indicated the designer did not put enough time and energy and though to this product . Why ??? or they just want to get $$$ only !!!
