TRADITION DARK ROAST
intrepid510 | Thu, 01/26/2012 - 01:20This is a really good dark roast, and it's what I would consider a traditional dark roast flavor. It's deep, rich, slightly spicy and does really well with milk. I normally drink my coffee black but with this one I find myself sneaking some cream into it because it really brings out the chocolate.
THE NOSTROMO IS ONE OF THE
Julie | Thu, 01/26/2012 - 01:07The Nostromo is one of the smoothest coffees I've ever tried, from start to finish. It wasn't acidic or bitter. I really enjoy dark roasts. I had difficulty picking out any distinct flavor notes on this one, though, but I just enjoyed the overall taste and how smooth it was! The beans themselves also have a wonderful aroma. When the package came, I could smell the beans even before opening the box. I loved that!
EXCELLENT CUP!
lisa | Mon, 12/26/2011 - 11:22I have had the Deep Cello 'Black Tie' and sent some to my parents for Christmas. Very nice coffee, but a bit bit too mellow for me. I decided to try the Deep Cello 'Nostromo' looking for a heavier flavor, and This is it!! Excellent cup from excellent roasters~
VERY NICE FROM START TO FINISH
Liz | Sat, 11/26/2011 - 14:13I really enjoyed Deep Cello's Nostromo. Very smooth, very balanced with a glorious flavor. Never found it bitter or thin or overly acidic. Even now, the aroma arising from the ground coffee when I open the air-tight bag in which I store it is fresh and evocative of a wonderful cup to come. However, not as dark as I expected it to be! So I'm still in search. But, this is now on my Favorites list. I'll be ordering it again. Great selection, Roaste.com! Thanks.
I ADDED THE NOSTROMO TO MY
gary55 | Thu, 10/13/2011 - 21:57I added the Nostromo to my order of Black Tie, so I'm trying it first. It is certainly a dark roast and a little oily compared to their Black Tie but it isn't bitter and I can taste dark chocolate. Will have to try it as a cap. but so far I've had two straight double shots. Since of the holiday on Monday it took a little longer then the last time I ordered it, and to show the sign of the times the cost went up on the Black Tie by about a dollar and the size of the bag went down, from a 1 pound bag to 12 oz bag. The last time I ordered it which was in August it came in a 1 pound bag now it's 12 oz. For a double shot of espresso I grind enough beans for 15 grams and pull the shot for 25 second and get plenty of crema. One of the flavors that stands out to me is that of dark chocolate. My machine is a Gaggia Baby and my grinder is a Cimbali Junior set on #5.5.
MY TRUSTED FRIEND
EricBNC | Thu, 09/22/2011 - 07:14The bag says "Nostromo" means trusted friend in Italian. As the other reviewer noted - the wonderful aroma coming from the bag (the postal package even) announces that a special friend has arrived indeed. Dated 9/15 and dressed in an unpretentious poly lined paper package, this friend comes ready for a nice visit.
The beans are dark with a bit of oil so perhaps more of a southern Italian style friend? I loosen the grind a bit from my last medium roast and let it rip. The pull at 200 F and 15g seems like a good place to start. I get a nice layer of crema and a dark chocolate/bakers chocolate taste in the long lingering finish but as the shot cools I get more of a milk chocolate middle joining the finish. Should I go for a lower temp?
I play around a bit looking for the steak and find a bit more bite finally at 203 F so maybe this is the chewy steak? I drop back to 200 since enjoy my chocolate bar even more. It is great as the base for an Americano, and the flavor is not so subtle that it is lost in milk - I not really surprised how nice the visit has been going though, after all should I expect any less from my "Trusted Friend"? ; )
DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK
jbviau | Thu, 09/22/2011 - 00:14This is a darker roast than I'm used to lately, but I enjoyed it black after brewing with a Clever. Will have to try it with cream next. "Steaky" richness is right!
DEEP CELLO ROASTERS - ITALIAN ROAST NOSTROMO
Lisa | Mon, 09/19/2011 - 19:22One of the first things I do when I get coffee is to smell it. This coffee came in a paper bag (whole beans) and I could smell it from the moment I opened the package when it arrived. It was a nice, strong, clean scent. (Wish I could turn it into perfume). After grinding it (and once again indulging in the smell) I made a pot (hoping the coffee would live up to what I was anticipating).
The flavor did not disappoint. It is strong but not flat. I tried it black, my father with his traditional half and half. He enjoyed it as well (the half and half did not overpower the coffee but simply added to it). I could see using this coffee when I make my flourless chocolate brownies (the chocolate and the coffee enhancing the flavor of each other). I could very easily pour this in a wine glass and enjoy it cold (as I would a glass of wine).
I have added this coffee to my list of "must reorder".
