Sumatra Takengon Fair Trade Viennese is our organic Takengon with a roast that is dark but not too dark. The roast is not as dark as a French or Italian. As the coffee bean roasts, the breakdown of the bean continues causing a cracking sound. A second “crack” is indicative of the Viennese roast.
For many coffees, the characteristics of the roast begin to eclipse the flavor of the bean, but Armeno Sumatra Takengon holds up particularly well. The caramelized sugars maintain the sweetness of the cup, but the acidity has begun to break down, along with the fruity characteristics of the coffee. If you enjoy a darker flavor, but aren’t a fan of French Roast, the Sumatra Tankengon Viennese may be for you.

A DELICIOUS DARK ROAST!
EricBNC | Mon, 06/28/2010 - 09:55The dry beans have a sweet roasted nut smell, a dark brown color, and an oily sheen. The brewed aroma is the same as the dry roast smell except maybe a bit sweeter. I would like to see a roast date on the bag, but the bloom is proof enough that at least this bag is fresh - your mileage my vary.
The initial taste reveals a gentle acidic tingle making this a livelier cup than I expected from a Sumatran. The roast, dark as it is, is not the whole story here. There is a complexity that goes beyond the roast style. The dark bittersweet taste (thankfully free of astringency or char) and the flavor of cocoa comes forward while that tingle remains present as it cools. These tastes linger long after the last sip and invite me enjoy another rich and creamy cup.
This one is a true winner - but please Mr. Park, add the roast date to the bag.
