Sumatra Mandheling, one of the world's prized coffees, is grown in the highlands of northern Sumatra in the Malay Archipelago of Indonesia. The plantations grow coffee trees at altitudes up to 5000 feet and use a combination of wet and dry processing methods. A bold coffee, Mandheling is full-bodied and mellow with a rich chocolate taste that lingers in each cup.

To find great coffee at $8 bucks a pound is the Holy Grail for this caffeine junkie. The thick layer of oil at the top of every brewed pot is proof that they are giving you a great price without pawning off the cheap stuff.

  • THE COFFEE WAS VERY FRESH.

    silenceofthemimes | Sat, 08/28/2010 - 07:29

The coffee was very fresh. There was no roast date on the bag, but the company's website states they ship 1-2 days after roasting, or the day it roasts. Smells very strong. Not to complicated, just the good roast coffee smell. The taste is similar. Not a lot of nuances like I detected in my PT's coffee. But, that doesn't mean bad. Its a straight forward, robust taste, without ever being bitter. Quite enjoyable for the morning.

  • EARTHY, MOSSY, CHOCOLATEY, WALNUTY

    Scott Lush | Sat, 06/26/2010 - 18:14

First prepared in a french press and loved the chocolaty, walnuty earthiness of this coffee from Armeno's. Then used in in an espresso machine to bring out more concentrated earthiness, mossiness, slight grassiness (in a good way), Guinness beer-like flavor. Really worked great. Worked great as drip coffee, french press or as an espresso coffee. This is the real deal, an earthy Sumatran, exactly the"original character" I was hoping for.
