Note: A brand new machine, upon receiving, may not heat. The reason is
that if the user does not immediately engage the boiler water refill
button upon startup to move water from the top basin to the lower boiler,
the safety thermostat will shut off power to the heating element. If you
purchased from us, please email us for reset instructions.

REVIEWS & COMMENTS
GREAT MACHINE
Wakeknot | Tue, 09/27/2011 - 21:07The chrome version does not scratch as easily, but some like the looks of this one better.
It is hard to find a better machine for espresso for the price though than either of these.
BEAUTIFUL LOOKS BUT DOES IT HAVE BRAINS?
denis | Tue, 04/26/2011 - 11:36Elektra Semi Automatica is one of those machines that you either madly love how it looks or dislike intensely. I happen to like its looks and machine is work of art that you can use for decoration.
But using it for decoration is neglecting its espresso making abilities which are good. Not on say La Marzocco GS/3 or Speedster level but still very good.
This is an HX machine without OPV (over-pressure-valve) which means that brew pressure is proportional to flow. What this means is that the finer you grind coffee the more pressure pump puts out. I think this limits the machine a little bit since when you make tight ristrettos it tends to over-extract since it pounds the coffee with about 12 bars of pressure instead of 9.
However in most cases it works really good and results are good. You need to flush it just before you pull the shot. How you flush? You press brew button and collect water in a cup. You will hear that water will start boiling while coming out of brew head. When boiling stops, count seconds to 3 seconds for hot, 5-6 seconds for medium and 7-8 seconds for low temperature brewing and stop the pump. Lock in your portafilter immediately and brew. That's it.
Note this machine likes head-space, meaning you cannot pack too much coffee in your basket. With standard double basket this machine comes with I think you can pack at most about 16 grams. Get larger baskets so you can use 18-20 grams of coffee.
