Variety in Stovetop Espresso Makers
For stovetop espresso that sends out a tantalizing aroma and follows through to deliver excellent tasting brew, the moka-type pots are unequaled. Though not all stovetop espresso pots are called moka pots, they all brew by the same method. Our selection of stovetop espresso pots is varied. In stainless steel and in aluminum, we have several styles of both in graduated sizes, from one cup to 14-cup capacity. Speaking of sizes, it’s important to keep in mind that when describing the capacity of espresso pots in cups, it’s the European espresso cup which is meant. A European cup is 2 ounces. So a 14-cup pot is really 28 ounces, just short of a quart. All of our stovetop espresso makers brew through pressure which forces the heated water up to the top of the pot, where it then flows down through the grounds to extract delicious espresso. The taste is similar to a pulled espresso, but the crema is missing because of the lower pressure of the stovetop brewer. We also carry stovetop espresso cappuccino makers, which include the milk steaming/frothing wand. It’s perfect for creating excellent cappuccinos, lattes and even chai teas.
Stovetop Espresso Popularity
"The stovetop espresso makers were first popularized in Italy, so some of our brands are from Italian manufacturers. Their popularity is growing in America as coffee lovers find out how attractive, easy-to-clean, and versatile they are. Perfect for travel, they have no breakable parts and only need some kind of stovetop to heat up the water. Then they extract the most wonderful flavors from the espresso grounds as the hot water streams through. Imagine how wonderful it is to start the day in the campground with the enticing aroma of espresso on the stovetop!
Besides versatility, stovetop espresso makers are easy to use. You just pour water in the bottom reservoir, pour the grounds into the filter basket, and place the basket into the pot. Common practice is not to tamp the grounds, but let the lid level them when you close it. After turning on the heat, on low, it will take a few minutes for the water to heat up enough to travel under the pressure to the top of the pot where it begins the trip back down, through the grounds. The coffee is done brewing when the bubbling noise of the boiling water stops. Then remove from heat and let it sit a minute before pouring the delicious espresso into your waiting cup.
