Any Kona coffee review will tell how this gourmet Hawaiian coffee is valued throughout the world for its enticing aroma and full-bodied strong flavor. Grown in the north and south districts of Kona on the big island of Hawaii, coffee plants love the climate; the altitude, between 800 and 2500 feet; and the mineral-rich volcanic soils. Morning sun and afternoon cloud cover over the Hualalai and Mauna Loa Mountains, plus wet summers and dry winters - after which the plants bloom - contribute to Kona’s uniqueness. Not surprisingly, the area which contains all of these unique features is relatively small: 2500 acres within a space of fifty square miles. Besides many 100% pure Kona single origin coffees, there are a number of blends. Hawaiian law mandates the percent of pure Kona coffee be clearly stated on the labels, so the buyer should be sure to read the label to know just what is being purchased. Another unique offering is the Kona Peaberry, top-of-the-line beans formed when only one bean develops in the cherry instead of two, concentrating the flavor.

Blue Horse is shade-grown following sustainable practices. Athena of Hawaii and Royal Kona produce 100% Kona as well from their Kona farms. Other roasters that offer 100% single origin Kona coffee beans are Tree Frog, Paramount and Lion. All of these coffees are the highest quality Kona coffees, roasted to order. It’s important to remember that there are other Hawaiian coffees, but Kona coffees come only from the Kona regions of the big island of Hawaii – as clearly stated on the label.
