Guatemalan Coffee’s Variety of Flavors

The Guatemalan coffee qualities resulting from the perfect habitats include medium to full body, with full body predominating. Aroma varies between origins; it’s been described as soft, rich and lively, and fragrant with light wine notes. Acidity varies from fine and light to crisp and pronounced. Flavors are described as fruity, chocolaty, sweet, citrusy, and nutty. These examples reveal the range of qualities and flavors of Guatemalan coffee, all of which are available in ROASTe’s Central America coffee section.

ROASTe’s coffees from Guatemala reveal an amazing variety of excellent tastes, body and acidity. Benefiting from the almost perfect combinations of geographical features, including two major oceans, high volcanic mountains in tropical latitudes, rainforests, and the optimal conditions for sustainable organic farming, Guatemalan coffees are an amazing experience.

Guatemalan Coffee’s Green Characteristics

The Guatemalan coffee selection at ROASTe includes some of the greenest qualities available in one section. We have organic, shade-grown, rainforest and fair trade choices. This part of Central America possesses the climates and geography so important to producing gourmet Arabica coffee beans, but the exciting thing about Guatemalan coffees is that there are several – about eight - regions, each contributing its outstanding qualities. The forests where coffee is grown are farmed so that the environment - biodiversity and water resources - are protected and the soils improved. Rainfall has been ideal, falling on a great diversity of rich volcanic soils, on high majestic mountains of heights from 4000 to 6000 feet. The high altitudes are not attractive to bugs and pests, making it more perfect for organic farming since chemical pesticides aren’t needed. With the dwindling of rain forests in many areas, Guatemalan coffees from the rainforest area become that much more prized. The temperatures and humidity also play an important role. Located on the both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, Guatemala also enjoys the micro-climate influences and humidity of both.

Taken together as a whole, it’s amazing how many different flavor experiences can come from one relatively small region. If a coffee lover was able to design a locale in which to grow the world’s finest coffee, he would most likely find himself in Central America where temperatures are perfect, in the area of several volcanoes to provide rich ash deposits. Finding mountains with altitudes up to 6000 feet, with valleys and plateaus favorable to growing coffee, Guatemala would be the place. The heights are natural barriers against pests, making organic coffee a natural. Optimal rainfall levels and great humidity from the Pacific are the frosting on the cake, or rather, the crema on the coffee.
