Fair Trade Coffee co-ops for Ethical Benefits
Fair Trade farmers receive a higher and fairer price for their beans. Growing out of a realization that many coffee farmers were living at a poverty level, the industry sought to bring them up to a more equitable level as well as striving to upgrade the community infrastructure. Fair trade thus improves not only the lives of the coffee growers and their workers, but the welfare and living standards of the entire community
Cooperatives developed within the Fair Trade model and it is through the cooperative that farmers work together to plan the projects that turn coffee profits into lifestyle improvements. Such projects often include such undertakings as schools and their upgrading, plumbing and other infrastructure improvements, health care facilities, improved farming practices for sustainability and better crops, and more. Organic farming often goes hand in hand with Fair Trade, as do shade-grown practices when possible. Consumers not only appreciate the better quality of the Fair Trade specialty coffees, but prefer the higher ethics underlying their purchase and enjoyment. Fair Trade coffees have enjoyed rapidly growing consumer demand in recent years, as the sustainability aspects and qualities of these coffees become better known.
Fair Trade Coffees from Many Origins and Flavors
Our Fair Trade Certified coffees offer a varied selection, as there are over 100 different choices. Many origins are represented, such as Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, India, the Pacific region (Philippines, Vietnam, Sumatra, Papua New Guinea and more), Peru, Bolivia, Ethiopia, Rwanda, plus others. Over one hundred of our Fair Trade coffees are also certified organic. Many of the roasters of our Fair Trade varieties have been distinguished by awards from organizations such as Food & Wine Magazine, Golden Cup for Excellence, Roast Magazine, SCAA Roaster’s Guild, and others.
Besides a variety of origins, our Fair Trade coffees offer many varieties of flavored coffee, from Hazelnut to Sticky Bun. The most unique offerings in this category are the Kopi Luwak (Civet) varieties, one of the rarest and most special coffees ever. Roast levels from dark to light are available as well. While most of our Fair Trade coffees are regular, we have a good selection of decafs for those who prefer no caffeine. Several of these were decaffeinated with the Swiss Water Process. To please the single serve fans, we even have Keurig offerings that are Fair Trade. Our Fair Trade coffees offer something for every taste and preference.
