New Roaster- Armeno Coffee Roasters of Northborough MA

Armeno Coffee Roasters must be one of the coolest places to work in the coffee business.

It's hArmeno's former wheat milloused in a former grain mill that sits atop a stream in Northborough MA.

It's a huge old wooden framed building.  Bags of green coffee are everywhere.  Since Armeno's is in a rural area it vents the smoke from its two large Deidrich roasters straight out the back.  You can smell Armeno's for minutes all around.

I visited Armeno's and met with roaster-owner John Park before we signed with him for ROASTe.

He's passionate about roasting.  He roasts about 70 different varieties.  That's huge for a rural coffee roaster.  The day I arrived he was roasting his Wachusetts blend, followed by his Sumatran and a Papua New Guinea.    For a roaster in a rural area he has an amazing variety of coffees.  We're carrying his most popular and interesting coffees on ROASTe.com.   Roaster John is a big fan of the Red Sox and the New England Patriots.  There are sports memorabilia all around the barn.

Some of the most interesting Armeno's coffees are now on ROASTe:

- Costa Rica La Minita Tarrazu.  Has a terrific floral aroma and citrusy flavor.

- Indian Mysore Nuggets:  lower brightness (acidity) and more earthiness than even a Sumatran coffee.

- Wachusett Viennese Blend:  a mixture of beans from Costa Rica, Papua New Guinea and Sumatra

- 2 coffees from Maui, Hawaii.  The coffee beans are so small that they look like lentil beans.  They are PACKED with flavor -- like a peaberry times two.

  • LA MINITA

    Alita Mantels | Sat, 06/04/2011 - 22:51

I'm always glad to see another passionate roaster carrying La Minita. (I stopped buying any other coffee decades ago since it's almost impossible to top its consistent quality and truly impossible to top the eco-friendly conditions for Bill McAlpin's workers at La Minita Hacienda in Costa Rica. )
