Latitude 23.5 - Jamican Craze

I had been wanting to pick up Jamican Craze for a while as I have been intrigued by the flavored coffee that is offered by Latitude 23.5. I am not normally a flavored coffee person, but when it's done right it can really make coffee into a nice desert like drink that a lot of people like, which I think can be evident by the rise of a lot of the coffee shops that have sprung up.

The reason why I had gotten this coffee is because it appears to be the number one flavored coffee here on Roaste, so what better way to start? The price of this coffee is certainly nice at only $10.10. I did decide to get this coffee preground because it was flavored, I have heard that the flavored coffee can really contaminate a coffee grinder. So if anyone decides to get this coffee I would probably have to recommend going with the preground, as it hasn't seemed to negatively impact the coffee.

As you can probably guess since I got this coffee preground I am making it strictly as a drip coffee. This coffee has done really well as a drip for a flavored coffee, it's nice that it isn't overpowering nor is it a artifical flavor. It's called Jamican Craze and it's a kind of sweet caramel rum flavor, thus Jamica in the name (yes Cpt Obvious has stuck). It has a nice flavor by itself something that I find lacking in a lot of flavored coffees.

However, it does really shine with a little bit of half/half. And actually after my wife tasted it with the half/half and she suggested it would do well with hazelnut creamer, I thought it would be a little too many flavors going on, she tends to be pretty good with flavors so I went with it. And of course she was right. It takes the flavor of the coffee to a very hazenut latte flavor and I can see this being a very good substitute if you know of someone that is addicted to flavor coffee shop bought lattes.

Overall, I am pretty impressed with this flavor coffee and if you are the type of person that likes a flavored coffee this one is probably a pretty safe bet.

Yeah it was definitely a way to be able to test out a coffee and I have to say it was also because I dont think you can taste the coffee getting stale since it is flavored. Had it for about a week now and the bag is still fine for the most I can tell.

  • GREAT TIP!

I've never thought about ordering flavoured coffee in preground. I've heard that flavored coffee will impart a long lasting nasty flavor to your grinder. Definitely a good tips! Thanks!

I don't know, and that is one experiment that I am not willing to commit. So I look forward to hearing your comments when using your espresso machine.

  • VERY GOOD TIP ABOUT USING

Very good tip about using pre-ground coffee but I wonder how espresso made with flavored coffee will taste like?

It's not much different than using a flavoring syrup just preapplied to the beans, works well in my opinion with creamer.

I have never in my life sampled a flavored coffee. I think I'll have to, just to satisfy my curiosity. Definitely pre-ground, so as not to mess up the grinder

Like I said to Eric this one is done well, but it's not going to convert you to a flavored coffee lover if you are not already. But if you can appreciate one every now and again for what it is, then you will like this one.

I figure if the world ever does warm up so there are no more high altitude coffees I better start getting a taste for flavored coffee. This one isn't bad, it's not going to convert you by any means.

I'm not a flavored coffee fan, but if YOU say this is good, I'll put it on my list of "gift coffees" for the friends I have who do appreciate it. You should try it with Lisa's almond coffee creamer recipe -- bet it would be great.

Pirate coffee? I like your taste for adventure mate! I go through a fair amount of flavored coffee in my house too. My wife and her friends prefer it to unflavored so I appreciate the heads up on this one. I did pick up a barely used Mr Coffee disc burr mill grinder a while back (I know, disc crush not grind) for a couple bucks to use as my dedicated flavored coffee grinder - it works better than I expected since the static draws off the dust creating decent electrostatic sifting.

Thanks for being a little more understanding, I think if I had multiple grinders I would have tried it as a while bean but. Since I only use the preciso and change blends daily it didn't seem like a good idea. So far so good tho.

  • COOL!

That does not sound bad for a flavored coffee nor pre-ground. If I was to pick this coffee, I definitely would use my hand grinder to grind it as it is pretty easy to disassemble the Hario mini mill to clean it if I have to.

I just want to see if anyone is actually reading this thing! In all reality I had to try it because it's the fourth highest rated coffee on the site, and well it must be popular for a reason. I forgot to mention that the coffee is very smooth with no traces of bitterness, hopefully it doesnt stale over the next few days and get it but so far so good.

I kid, I kid. Right, preground makes sense in this case. Most flavoreds don't agree with me, but occasionally I'll find one I really like.
