FAIRTRADE? (on blog: Fair Trade coffee in context)
Son Ton | Thu, 06/14/2012Yeah, I agree, this does not seem to be very fair-trade at all. Direct trade seem to me is going to be the future of specialty coffee. It is better for the farmers and the roasters too I suppose.
INTERESTING! (on blog: Coffee Adventures)
Son Ton | Thu, 06/14/2012Thank you for comming up with an interesting blend. Can you give some recommendation as to the brewing protocol? Can we use it for espresso?
@INTREPID510 (on blog: Most creative affogato ever? Portola contends for the title with its Wafflegato)
jbviau | Thu, 06/14/2012What, no espresso machine at work? ;) Guess you'd need a gelato stand, too, and a waffle iron.
I JUST GOT AN ORDER FROM (on blog: Mtn. Air Guatemala)
intrepid510 | Thu, 06/14/2012I just got an order from Mtn.Air, got three bags the Rwandan, this one and the Costa Rican. Only have dipped into the Rwandan thus far, can't wait to try this one out as well.
@INTREPID510 (on blog: Fair Trade coffee in context)
jbviau | Thu, 06/14/2012Right, I like the direct trade model very much. Work with the farmer, etc. Coffee with a story.
HA! (on blog: Coffee Adventures)
jbviau | Thu, 06/14/2012LOL at Intrepid's post. Don't forget to pump some iron. And remember that it's not about the weight so much as how it's distributed. ;)
MAN HARD TO READ WHILE STUCK (on blog: Most creative affogato ever? Portola contends for the title with its Wafflegato)
intrepid510 | Thu, 06/14/2012Man hard to read while stuck at work on a warm summer day, oh many only 2 hours to go....
JUST HAVE TO DEMAND THE FAIR (on blog: Fair Trade coffee in context)
intrepid510 | Thu, 06/14/2012Just have to demand the fair trade to get it fairly traded. I think direct trade relationships are really what you have to look for.
LOOKS NICE, VERY ATTRACTIVE. (on blog: Coffee Adventures)
intrepid510 | Thu, 06/14/2012Looks nice, very attractive. I think it would be a good eHarmony picture for Carolina!
THIS IS A RARE FIND... (on coffee: Burundi - Kayanza - Gacokwe)
dubbie98 | Thu, 06/14/2012A scrumdiddlyumptous coffee. This truly has a rare and bizzare nose to it. Tastes like malted sugar, only better. Is one of my all time favorites.
@BARKINGBURRO (on blog: Most creative affogato ever? Portola contends for the title with its Wafflegato)
jbviau | Thu, 06/14/2012Fun! I hadn't picked that Brazil as a good contender for iced coffee--glad it worked out. I *did* brew up a Klatch Rwanda over ice using the Trifecta and was happy with the results.
BRAVO! (on blog: Most creative affogato ever? Portola contends for the title with its Wafflegato)
barkingburro | Thu, 06/14/2012I'm stoked you like the Brazil, Josh. I keep coming back to it time and again. And recently, I tried a batch 12 days since roast, applied my nondiluting cooling technique, added some half and half, ...
SO... (on blog: Mtn. Air Guatemala)
jbviau | Thu, 06/14/2012...was it this one? http://www.roaste.com/product/mtnairroasting/Guatemala-Hacienda-Carmona-Pulcal I'd like to try these guys out before long. Not sure this is the coffee I'll start with though.
@FINCAWHD (on blog: Unboxing the Bunn Trifecta MB)
jbviau | Thu, 06/14/2012Bunn recommends 2 g. of coffee per oz. I'm updosing a touch from there, e.g. ~21 g. for 10 oz. It's been so long since I've had a cup from a vac pot that I wouldn't want to compare the two brew method...
I SUPPOSE MY QUESTIONS WOULD (on blog: Unboxing the Bunn Trifecta MB)
fincawhd | Wed, 06/13/2012i suppose my questions would be (a) what's your coffee to water recipe? (b) how does the cup compare to that from a metal-filter vacuum pot? (c) to a metal-filtered aeropress?
@INTREPID510 (on blog: Unboxing the Bunn Trifecta MB)
jbviau | Wed, 06/13/2012Nah, no regrets re: the Esatto. I can handle weighing my beans before grinding and just adding ~0.3 g. to cover retention if I'm using the Preciso (no retention with the LIDO). Changing the Trifecta's...
HOW MUCH (on blog: Ethiopia Kochere-Three ways)
DTT | Wed, 06/13/2012Interesting. How much do you usually use per 500ml? Not sure how I got on the 25g per 500ml but that's what I've been using lately.
CLASSIC (on coffeemaker: BUNN BX-B Velocity Brew Classic 10-Cup Home Coffee Maker)
intrepid510 | Wed, 06/13/2012These machines have been around for a long time, and for good reason. As oppose to other coffee makers the Bunn keeps the water at the proper temp for as long as it's plugged in and therefore once you...
VERY NICE, PERHAPS YOU (on blog: Unboxing the Bunn Trifecta MB)
intrepid510 | Wed, 06/13/2012Very nice, perhaps you should've kept the escatto it would've made making coffee effortless! I guess my only question is do you find the setting to make any sort of difference? When talking to the man...
TOO MILD? (on coffee: Guatemala - Antigua - Finca Santa Clara Coffee)
jbviau | Wed, 06/13/2012I enjoyed this coffee, but not as much as I'd expected to. Chocolate and light berry in the wet aroma. Very clean cup. Delicately balanced acidity. Brewed mostly in the Trifecta but also in the Eva So...
@FINCAWHD (on blog: Heads up: WBC 2012 starts 6/12!)
jbviau | Wed, 06/13/2012I hear you, but the best competitors teach me something about coffee with their commentary as they prepare their drinks. I listen more than watch.
EXCELLENT SET-UP AND PRICE (on coffeemaker: Yama Tabletop Coffee Siphon 5 Espresso Cups Butane Burner)
fincawhd | Wed, 06/13/2012excellent set-up and price here. i'd recommend going for the yama metal filter: easy clean up and a clean cup.
AFRAID TO SAY THAT MY (on blog: Heads up: WBC 2012 starts 6/12!)
fincawhd | Tue, 06/12/2012afraid to say that my interest in coffee doesn't extend that far. i like coffee, but wouldn't be interested in watching even the very best baristas prepare it.
25 GRAMS PER 500 ML IS A (on blog: Ethiopia Kochere-Three ways)
fincawhd | Tue, 06/12/201225 grams per 500 ml is a little less than I'd prefer to use, perhaps you can bump that up in order to add body without losing the flavor that you like

jbviau | Tue, 06/12/2012Ok, Katie rocked. That routine was worth watching. And I believe Aida Batlle, whose coffees Katie used, was in the audience. Very cool!
WILD BLUE COFFEE (on coffee: Wild Blue Blend)
Lisa | Tue, 06/12/2012This was a very enjoyable coffee. Mellow, full of flavor and an incredible smell. It was delicious both iced and hot. I am a big fan of Avion and so far have found that you cannot go wrong with any of...

SOUNDS REFRESHING... (on blog: Ethiopia Kochere-Three ways)
jbviau | Mon, 06/11/2012...like a good summer coffee should be. The Klatch Rwanda I'm working with right now shares that quality. If you brew it just so, it's almost like strawberry juice. Btw, the best coffee I've ever had ...
