Popular ROASTe Coffee Wins “Oscar”

The Good Food Awards, nicknamed “Oscars”, are announced yearly to honor food and drink producers who’ve created a responsible food delivery system that honors both farmers and producers, while featuring “tasty”, “authentic” products as well. The awards were handed out Friday, the coffee category prize going to ROASTe’s popular roaster, Klatch Coffee of California.
The winner in the coffee category must exhibit exemplary flavor which is sweet and clean; a well-developed body; balanced acidity; and wonderful aroma. Fairness and transparency in business dealings is required, and beans must be certified organic.
Klatch’s winning coffee, Ethiopian Gedeo Worka, is no newcomer to awards. It previously won “Best of Brew” at the 2011 National coffee Association Ultimate Barista Challenge. In addition, coffee expert Kenneth Davids gave it a 92 point rating.
The winning coffees are chosen by a panel of 13 distinguished coffee experts. They appreciated Ethiopian Gedeo Worka’s flavors of blueberries, blackberries and raspberries, with notes of Bing cherries and some tropical fruits. The fruitiness is enhanced by cherry vanilla and coco powder notes. All this and the bright acidity in a creamy, juicy body along with the fruity floral aroma won the judge’s approval.

yeahyeah | Tue, 01/24/2012 - 17:34Good for Klatch, they have been a consistent favorite of mine. I haven't tried their Gedeo Worka on its own, but it was a component of Out of Africa which was my favorite blend from 2011.
