How to find the right gasket and screen filter for your stovetop espresso maker

So your stovetop espresso maker started to leak. Chances are all it needs is good cleaning and a gasket replacement. Trying to find the right gasket can be a daunting task. Here's a short guide on how to do it easily on ROASTe:

gasket outside diameterWhat size is your stovetop?

Stovetops come in many sizes. From 1-cup to 18-cup. An espresso cup is about 1oz, so these are not your everyday cups. Before you buy your gaskets, you need to figure out what size is your stovetop. The easiest way to find out is by looking at the product box, or at times at the pot itself.

Alternatively, measure the outside diameter of your existing gasket and use the tables below to figure out the size of your espresso stovetop.

  • EVEN A NEW GASKET...

    Chamie | Mon, 12/05/2011 - 07:56

...couldn't save my late, sorely missed moka pot. Not sure where my head was at one night, but I carefully measured out my coffee, put it all together and put it on for my coffee... but forgot to add the water! Instead of the heavenly aroma of coffee, my kitchen was filled with acrid burnt rubber. The gasket was totally melted onto the metal. No saving it. I really do have to replace it -- I miss my machinetta coffee.

I have a pretty old generic moka pot but it seems like the gasket is still in a good shape. This guide will come in handy in the futre.

I think this info could save lots of people time and money - there is nothing worse than buying a gasket that is the wrong size. thanks for the good write up.
