Happy National Anniversary Day to Ethiopia and Ecuador!

This week marks the anniversaries of two of our favorite coffee countries – Ecuador and Ethiopia. Ecuador celebrates on May 24, and Ethiopia follows on May 28. ROASTe salutes these two nations and the coffees they produce.

Did you know? It’s interesting that both Ecuadoran and Ethiopian coffees grow in mountainous rich volcanic soil. When the need for extra fertilizer arises, organic is often used, so we have many organic coffees from both these regions.

Monday, May 16, is National Coffee Day in the US. On this day we celebrate coffee, and what's a better day of the week to celebrate our morning wakeup brew than a Monday!

We have much to celebrate in coffee. This year we’ve seen many new research studies come out concerning benefits of coffee on health. Coffee seems to help prevent diabetes, breast cancer, liver cirrhosis and liver cancers, gout, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, gallstones, kidney stones, heart rhythm problems, stroke… the list keeps growing.

With Mother’s Day approaching on Sunday, we might pause to consider how our mothers affected us in terms of our important interests in life. There’s no question that for most of us, our moms, or other mother figures such as stepmoms and adoptive moms, affected us in many ways.

Mention imported artisanal foods in Kansas City Missouri and many locals will think of the Paris family. Known for their importing of specialty foods, they have one of the largest temperature-controlled green coffee storehouses in the US. Five years ago they put their skills into roasting the best coffee and they’ve succeeded in taking coffee roasting to a higher level of craftsmanship.
